Giants sign Mike Patterson

The Dream Team is moving up the New Jersey Turnpike.

We kid, but there’s a second former Eagles defensive tackle joining the Giants. Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that the Giants have signed Mike Patterson, who will join Cullen Jenkins on the Giants defensive line in 2013.

Patterson was cut by the Eagles before the start of free agency on the same day that they gave Jenkins his walking papers. Patterson played just five games for Philly in 2012 after preseason surgery before the season to repair an arteriovenous malformation from his brain. That condition contributed to a seizure during training camp in 2011 that initially seemed to threaten his ability to continue his football career.

Patterson spent eight seasons in Philly overall, most of them as a starter, before getting his walking papers with the change in coaches and defensive philosophies this offseason. He probably won’t be a starter with the team he used to call a rival, but should provide solid depth at a spot that also includes Linval Joseph, Marvin Austin and Shaun Rogers.
