Julian Edelman visiting Giants

We haven’t heard nearly as much about free agent wide receiver Julian Edelman as we have about his former Patriots teammate Wes Welker this offseason, but Edelman’s lined up a visit with a team that’s beaten New England in two Super Bowls.

Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that Edelman is visiting with the Giants on Wednesday and Thursday as he tries to find a home for the 2013 season. Edelman ended the 2013 season on injured reserve thanks to a broken foot, which might explain why there’s been little reported interest in his services to this point of the offseason.

With Domenik Hixon officially headed to Carolina and Ramses Barden still a free agent, there are some openings on the depth chart at receiver with the Giants. Victor Cruz has had a stranglehold on the slot receiver role with the team in the last couple of years, though, which might make for tough sledding for Edelman in New Jersey if he and his new agents decide that playing the 2013 season under a restricted free agent tender isn’t one of their 99 problems.

Edelman is also a good punt returner, of course, and that’s something the Giants could use on the roster.

Would not want to see the Pats lose Edelman on top of Welker.

I’m hoping he and Bill have a deal to let the market gauge his worth.

This guy has some big plays in him if he can stay in one piece.

I feel bad for Barden. I really do. Guy’s got a lot of talent. He just never really got to develop because the Giants just refused to put him out there unless they had to. He’d make a great red zone target for any team. Including the Giants.

Did he hurt himself getting off the plane?

Barden got chances, he was always hurt. Edelman would be a good pickup for kr duties alone, but he’s pretty similar to Jernigan.

Being a Giant fan living in Massachusett this would be a very good move if the Giants can sign him.He can make plays whether its punt returning or receiving.

I think Reese is setting the table for a Offensive charge going into the draft.
Edelman is 26 and is a solid kick reurner, averaging 15.5 yards last year and brought one back 68 yards to the house, his third in 3 years!
Reese does not want Wilson returning KO’s, this would be an good addtion, and he plays DB?
    CT GIANT

barden couldn’t get on the field. he didn’t dress for more than half the games that took place while he was on the giants. that has to tell you something about what the coaching staff thought of him in practice. when he was out there, he never could get any separation in his routes, didn’t use his size to his advantage (even in the red zone), and would drop catchable balls. not to mention he had problems staying healthy. the giants had plenty of patience with the kid but the talent just never panned out and it was finally time to move on.

he should have signed with the bills.

Yeah, But does Edelman really want to go from a team that is a SB contender (one game away) to a team that DID’T EVEN MAKE THE PLAY OFFS LAST YEAR?
I love it! This makes the superbowls not matter.
    Didn’t even make the playoffs!!!!!
    ha. ha. ha.

I think this would be a great signing for G MEN.
    1. Can return kicks and punts
    2. Adds slot receiver insurance if Cruz leaves
    3. Should come reasonably cheap
    4. Good special teams guy
    5. Extremely quick and can gain separation in the “red zone”
    6. Is an ex QB that can give the defense a good spread option look on “scout team”

Man I hope we an keep Edelman, he really makes the most of the few touches a game he gets, there needs to be a stat for that, like 5 touches between 20+ yd gains. His last game before injury last year I thought he was breaking out.

Especially with Welker leaving and the injury prone Amendola we need a solid backup in slot for the offense that is ran. Shoot his one game as a starter against the ravens in 09 playoffs he had over 100 yes in Welkers place.

Make this happen Pats. Offer an extra mil instead of taking a flyer on a scrub that will get cut in TC
