We haven’t heard nearly as much about free agent wide receiver Julian Edelman as we have about his former Patriots teammate Wes Welker this offseason, but Edelman’s lined up a visit with a team that’s beaten New England in two Super Bowls.
Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that Edelman is visiting with the Giants on Wednesday and Thursday as he tries to find a home for the 2013 season. Edelman ended the 2013 season on injured reserve thanks to a broken foot, which might explain why there’s been little reported interest in his services to this point of the offseason.
With Domenik Hixon officially headed to Carolina and Ramses Barden still a free agent, there are some openings on the depth chart at receiver with the Giants. Victor Cruz has had a stranglehold on the slot receiver role with the team in the last couple of years, though, which might make for tough sledding for Edelman in New Jersey if he and his new agents decide that playing the 2013 season under a restricted free agent tender isn’t one of their 99 problems.
Edelman is also a good punt returner, of course, and that’s something the Giants could use on the roster.
