Panthers agree to deal with Domenik Hixon

Domenik Hixon AP

The Panthers’ perpetual search for complementary receivers has led them to a player new general manager Dave Gettleman is familiar with.

According to Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com, former Giants wideout Domenik Hixon has agreed to terms with the Panthers, after interest from the Browns.

Hixon could step into the third wideout role vacated when former Panthers wideout Louis Murphy took his spare-part job with the Giants.

The Panthers also added Ted Ginn this offseason, giving them plenty of experienced competition for a young group with no sure things beyond starters Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell.

Great guy. Value on ST returning kicks and punts. Very good option as a #3 WR. Reliable guy! Will be missed in NY.

Basically like a trade murphy for hixson. Still don’t have that home run threat opposite of steve smith IMO. I’m not sure if this changes the draft strategy to get a Wideout but Cam still needs weapons. Big Weapons like 6′ 4 or 6′ 5 type of red zone threats. Maybe this move cuts A. Edwards finally.

I was getting really worried there for a minute..Im just glad we are getting some mediocre talent to compete with that, that we already have..even I think Ginn will be an upgrade..Carolina has had the worst special teams in the league for atleast the past 5-6 years..on both sides of the ball

Hixon is a good WR, fast with good hands, by the time he got back from injury the Giants had committed to new guys. Still a really decent player though.

Should be a good #3 WR for them if he stays healthy.

This is a good signing for the Panthers and he is just about a lock for the slot receiver position if healthy. Kudos again to Dave Gettleman.

Decent upside signing I suppose. I’m not sold on it though. If you want another weapon for Cam and an heir apparent to Steve Smith, I’d highly consider drafting Tavon Austin. He’ll impact that offense way more than Hixon.

Glad the negotiations worked out. Hixson should be the #2 receiver before mid-season. This leaves things open for the Panthers to go for a DT in the first round of the draft.

And now LaFell is a “sure thing”

    Really Gantt?

Panthers still need to draft a WR. Tavon Austin could make things interesting in that offense.
