Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington has characterized his four-game suspension under the substance-abuse policy as a mistake. Actually, it’s likely at least three mistakes, given the precise structure of the policy and the substance-abuse program.
And it means that he’s likely one mistake away from a one-year suspension.
Unless Washington committed all substance-abuse policy violations since September, it also means that the Cardinals knew about the issue when he was signed to a long-term extension last September. Which means that the Cardinals may have included language in the contract protecting them against an eventual suspension.
Moreover, the fact that the suspension has been announced means that all appeals have been exhausted, and that the suspension will be served. This video is no longer available. Click here to watch more NBC Sports videos!
