The Cardinals braintrust is either creating an elaborate ruse, or just wanted to get away to Los Angeles for the weekend.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians and general manager Steve Keim will have a private workout with Southern Cal quarterback Matt Barkley Saturday.
While the responsible thing to do is to scout everyone, there seems little rational reason for the Cards to spend much time on Barkley. After trading for Carson Palmer to start and bringing in Drew Stanton, the Cards seem set for the short term.
But beyond that, Barkley doesn’t have the kind of big arm that would seem to fit Arians’ downfield-passing style.
But evaluate they must, in case anyone else really decides they like Barkley, and needs to get into the top seven to get him.
