Jets hosting Zac Dysert this week

The Jets aren’t likely to use their first-round pick on a quarterback this year, primarily because of the strong chance the team will have a new coach in 2014.  If the new coach doesn’t like the incumbent quarterback, the pick could end up quickly being wasted.  (Scroll down a story or two for an example of that dynamic.)

But it would make sense for the Jets to use a mid-round pick on a quarterback whom the team thinks could run Marty Mornhinweg’s version of the West Coast offense.  If least-of-current-evils Mark Sanchez can’t make the transition, the rookie could be called upon to give it a try, and it turn to possibly save the jobs of everyone on the coaching staff.

That rookie could be Miami (Ohio) quarterback Zac Dysert.  As Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports, Dysert will visit the Jets on Wednesday.  (A visit by anyone other than a local prospect cannot involve a workout; to watch the player throw privately, the Jets must go to where the player went to school.)

Gil Brandt of NFL.com pegs Dysert as a mid-rounder, and the Jets were among 22 teams who attended his Pro Day workout last month.  Dysert completed 54 of 64 passes on a day when the temperature was below freezing and the wind speed was in single digits.  Which covers roughly half of the Jets’ home games per year.

Rexy is in for a huge let down when he realizes Jets are hosting “Dysert” and not “Desert”

The Jets are all in on Sanchez. True poker style.

He will be the sleeper pick of the draft. Dysert reminds me a bit like Dan Marino, his arm, his somewhat limited mobility and his stance in the pocket. Despite the similarities, he looks like a late 3rd, early 4th round pick.

This guy is the most underrated QB in the draft. Get him in the 3rd and he will develop into a terrific quarterback for the NFL. Watch the film on him and ull see a proven leader who did more with less at Miami (Ohio).. I’m ecstatic the Jets are looking into him
