E.J. Manuel to visit the Jets later this week

E.J. Manuel AP

Given the uncertainty about the future of coach Rex Ryan, and a new general manager in John Idzik, it’s hard to imagine the Jets investing a first-round pick in a quarterback the next coach might not want if things don’t work out.

But that doesn’t mean they’re not looking for someone to compete with Mark Sanchez and David Garrard.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Florida State’s E.J. Manuel will visit the Jets later this week.

Manuel has been pegged as a late-first or early-second-rounder by many, and the Jets picking at No. 39 in the second round makes a degree of sense.

Jets going to trade Revis to T.B. for their #13 overall pick, then package that with #9 and trade up to #2 overall with the Jags. To take a quarterback. Maybe even Manuel.

    I hope.

If they want competition for Sanchez and Garrard they could sign Tebow.

    Wait…

If the Jets can can Dion Jordan, Tavon Austin, EJ Manuel with their first 3 picks (assuming they can get the 13th pick) that there wo uld be an awesome draft. Hoping Jets can grab that 13th pick. Austin would help Jets day 1.

Manuel won’t last past Jacksonville in the 2nd round, so if the Jets were to get him, they would have to trade back into the latter first round.

I can see a team like BAL or NE (QB needy team may have to fork over a 2014 1st round to NE) trading out of the first for a team that needs a QB.

The Jets are stuck. There simply isn’t a QB who is obviously better than Sanchez in this draft. And even if there was– they couldn’t get him at #9 anyway.

So it’s one more year with Sanchez. They hope he either vastly improves or they stink so much they get a top pick next year. Most likely he will be mediocre and they’ll be back in the same boat in 2014.

They shouldn’t draft a Qb this year. if they can’t make 2 former 1st picks work, what is a 2nd, 3rd or 4th rounder going to do?

Likely picking in the top three the next year, so why not give us one more season of Sanchez blooper reels and grab a higher-caliber QB in ’14?

Why would any team would want to draft a QB when they have Sanchez and Tebow on the roster? LOL
