Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland has signed his one-year tender offer from the club. The move was disclosed in the NFL’s Monday transaction report.

The Jets held the right to match any offer sheet to the 25-year-old Cumberland, who was an unrestricted free agent.

With Dustin Keller departing in free agency, the 6-foot-4, 260-pound Cumberland could have a bigger role in the Jets’ passing game this season. The fourth-year pro finished second among Jets players in catches (29), receiving yards (359) and targets (53) in 2012, and his three TD catches tied for the team lead.

Restricted free agency ends on Friday, April 19, six days before the 2013 NFL Draft begins.

Sad when your QB connects on so few of those targets

He’s probably their best player on offense…

How did they hold right of first refusal if he was an “unrestricted free agent”?

    Can’t see my comment anymore.

I can’t believe that 3 TDs tied the team lead for last season. I know he was a TE but there were 57 receivers in the NFL who had 4 or more. That’s just receivers. That’s just sad.
