Kevin Kolb: I’m in Buffalo to win a Super Bowl, period

Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb isn’t shy about expressing his high expectations in Buffalo.

In his introductory press conference today, Kolb proclaimed that the only thing he’ll be satisfied with is bringing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Buffalo.

I’m here to win a Super Bowl. Period,” Kolb said.

First things first, Kolb needs to win the starting job. All the Bills are saying now is that they consider Kolb a strong candidate to be the starter, but he’ll have to compete in camp with Tarvaris Jackson, Aaron Corp, and probably a rookie, as the Bills are likely to draft a quarterback in two weeks.

If Kolb does earn the starting job, he’ll be the starting quarterback on a team that few people see as a playoff contender, let along a title contender. Kolb knows how low the expectations are, and he likes that.

“It’s good to come to an organization like this,” Kolb said. “They’re hungry. It’ll be nice to come out and surprise some people.”

It’s safe to say that if Kolb does win a Super Bowl in Buffalo, that will surprise some people.

Shouldnt it be more like “Im here to win a Super Bowl, question mark?”

Someone check this guy for a concussion.

In some years, he’ll use his own quote to join the concussion law suit against the NFL.

  9. greglloydrules says: Apr 8, 2013 1:54 PM

This last week has been so comical. Is it me or are all these players now standup comedians?

  10. getyourownname says: Apr 8, 2013 1:54 PM

Hopefully his signing bonus will be enough to buy a GPS that works.

  12. ecupatsfan12 says: Apr 8, 2013 1:55 PM

They may (emphasis on may) make it to the super bowl, but not with him at QB. Sorta like Ray Lewis may not stab you, but you would wind up dead anyway.

  13. sdb0ltz says: Apr 8, 2013 1:55 PM

    … Says the backup…

  14. ampats says: Apr 8, 2013 1:55 PM

I think he meant to say winning the Buffalo Wings Super Bowl this summer.

  15. eaglesince86 says: Apr 8, 2013 1:55 PM

i just showed the entire office even the bills fans joined us in laughter

  16. allaboutkubrick says: Apr 8, 2013 1:56 PM

Come on… people want him to tell the truth? “I’m here because it is the only place that’d sign me where I can conceivably start. But it is entirely possible I lose the starting job the second week of the preseason to a rookie.”

  17. stubbyjones says: Apr 8, 2013 1:56 PM

What did you want him to say? I’m here to get hurt and play like crap?

  18. hobbeslax says: Apr 8, 2013 1:56 PM

There were better teams in Buffalo that went to the Super Bowl FOUR times and couldn’t win.
This guy couldn’t even start for a Cardinals team with one of the NFL’s best receivers!

  19. mykelane says: Apr 8, 2013 1:57 PM

    Still concussed.

  20. skydivn01 says: Apr 8, 2013 1:57 PM

Even Mark Sanchez laughed at this one.

  29. 509seahawks says: Apr 8, 2013 2:04 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Kevin Kolb is a funny guy.

  30. ghostofgilchrist says: Apr 8, 2013 2:05 PM

Ok, it’s an easy shot to take…thanks to all the masters of the obvious.

Kolb started out very well last year before getting hurt. It’s not completely crazy to think he might have some success. Maybe not the SB, but with some decent QB play, and a defense that should be better (-Wannstedt, + Petine), a wildcard is a reasonable goal.

After 13 years of watching Bills play golf in January, I’d be thrilled to just get to the dance.

  31. logicailvoicesays says: Apr 8, 2013 2:05 PM

This isn’t all that different from any QB besides RG3 saying he’s going to win a Super Bowl.

  32. GrossmanDaSexCannon says: Apr 8, 2013 2:06 PM

Well, Kevin, we’re all laughing at you now. Prove the whole city wrong.

  33. jpk6044 says: Apr 8, 2013 2:07 PM

If everyone needs evidence of the long term effects of multiple concussions, there it is.

  36. bonecrushinghits says: Apr 8, 2013 2:11 PM

This explains exactly why Goodell wants to take “the head out of the game”. You see what too many blows to the head will do? Yikes

  37. daltex says: Apr 8, 2013 2:11 PM

As a coach, you like his fire. As a teammate, you appreciate his optimism. As a fan of the game, though, all you can do is chuckle.

  38. chawk12thman says: Apr 8, 2013 2:12 PM

Nice to have confidence and a goal, but how about trying to be realistic and try to get into the playoffs? Sights may be a bit high and certainly one that you may have wanted to keep between you and your closest friends….not on national tv.

  39. EJ says: Apr 8, 2013 2:12 PM

I like the confidence! We’ve needed someone like that since Jim Kelly last ran the Offense.

  40. heyguru1969 says: Apr 8, 2013 2:13 PM

That’s a misquote. The original quote was “I’m here in Buffalo for wings and a supper bowl.” Can’t blame the man — they’re Deee-licious.

  41. fearthebengaltiger says: Apr 8, 2013 2:17 PM

dude has a serious concussion before season even starts, poor guy.

  42. steelerben says: Apr 8, 2013 2:17 PM

  43. rkt4mayor says: Apr 8, 2013 2:21 PM

Isn’t it a little late for an April Fool’s joke Kolb?

  44. sirthorazine says: Apr 8, 2013 2:21 PM

As a BILLS fan, I can’t even be mad at all the above comments. In fact, I am laughing by not only Kolb’s comments but the users who have posted.

    GO BILLS!!

i am sitting here eating soup for lunch, good thing i didnt have any soup in my mouth when i read that quote kolb said or i may have spit it all over my keyboard and screen.Maybe he thinks he is still in Philly or took too many shots to the head…lol

  46. nookers says: Apr 8, 2013 2:29 PM

Its hard to get mad at him really. At least we didnt buy our team, like some.

  47. raiderlyfe510 says: Apr 8, 2013 2:32 PM

Better than Matt Flynn saying that we’re building something special. Raiders aren’t building nothing but a disaster.

  48. mrphatal says: Apr 8, 2013 2:32 PM

Also, Kelly had how many shots and failed? Good Luck and keep smoking the hippie lettuce man!

  60. tformation says: Apr 8, 2013 2:44 PM

Gotta love the confidence. Of course, that confidence had a way of boomeranging on Rex Ryan.

In Kevin’s defense though, I remember watching the Rams/Cardinals game last year that was on a Thursday night. And I remember the Rams just shredding the Cards’ front line. Able to get to Kolb at will on what seemed like *every* play. The Rams looked *REALLY* good in that game.

I remembered thinking to myself, “Man, do the Bears play the Rams this year?” And then realized, oh yeah! The Bears ALREADY played them, and beat them soundly.

I realized that the Cards offensive line made the Rams look really, really good… and Kolb really bad and really tired!

  61. losntina69 says: Apr 8, 2013 2:46 PM

i think there was a type O it was supposed to read. I am here in Buffalo to watch the super bowl.Period. Your welcome everyone i just cleared it up.

  62. buffalohogan says: Apr 8, 2013 2:48 PM

Bills fans – Before we get too excited, keep in mind the source.

In a related story, Kevin Kolb got lost in the parking lot trying to find his car…or was it a truck….maybe a motorcycle….

    Damn these concussions…

  63. boltncolt says: Apr 8, 2013 2:48 PM

Baby steps.. Win the starting job first.

  64. dvdman123 says: Apr 8, 2013 2:49 PM

Now do you believe Roger Goodell about the adverse affects on players from the head injuries? Here is your proof…….poor guy. Next thing you know he’ll think he’s better than Manning,Brees,Rodgers and Brady.

  65. taylormade311 says: Apr 8, 2013 2:51 PM

How long is it going to take before NFL GMs realize this guy is nothing more than Matt Leinart 2.0 career backup.

  66. thedanceface says: Apr 8, 2013 2:53 PM

  67. ehill49r4l says: Apr 8, 2013 2:55 PM

  68. patriots123456 says: Apr 8, 2013 3:01 PM

Move over Rex Ryan, we have a new prediction buffoon to take your place.

  69. Helper Sports says: Apr 8, 2013 3:09 PM

Not sure about the Super Bowl, but if the Bills O line can keep Kolb on his feet there should be improvement. Kolb’s skill set is better then anything the Bills have had in a while. He may not be the long term answer, but until the Bills find their guy Kolb should fit well.

  70. pastabelly says: Apr 8, 2013 3:09 PM

He should worry about making the team first.

  74. bengalskuta82 says: Apr 8, 2013 3:14 PM

Whoa hold on. You might wanna get sexy Rexs approval first. He knows how to talk like that.. Belichick must be LOL somewhere.

  75. competitivecompetitioncompeter says: Apr 8, 2013 3:20 PM

4 walls, chairs, whiteboard, trash and recycling bins, water cooler, all check.

  76. bengalskuta82 says: Apr 8, 2013 3:23 PM

My prediction. Kolb will for sure start; look at his salary.
He goes out on week 1 and wins.
    But goes 0-5 after that
He gets benched in week 7 and Tavaris Jackson finishes the season
Next season, he is back to being a Clipboard Boy because that’s who he is.

  81. jpaq68 says: Apr 8, 2013 3:46 PM

They must have an X Box or a PS3 or something in that locker room, because there is no way he could have been talking about winning one on a real football field.

  82. seaeagle707 says: Apr 8, 2013 3:47 PM

Hey Kev, go to Philadelphia. I think you’d have a better chance of winning a Lombardi there. If that doesn’t work out, try Jax. They will be a comer in the next few years.

  83. tdravens says: Apr 8, 2013 3:51 PM

somebody get this guy a map, he’s clearly lost

  84. jpaq68 says: Apr 8, 2013 3:52 PM

That kind of talk will get you a call from The Commissioner’s office – because you’re obviously in violation of the Leagues substance abuse policy.

  85. whatjusthapped says: Apr 8, 2013 3:53 PM

Forget the Vegas odds on that statement, just look around the NFL and based strictly on watching the 32 teams, you would have to put Buffalo in the bottom 5 teams and give them only a slightly better chance than the Vikings who, coincidentally also lost 4 Superbowls.

The difference is the Vikings also lost the last 5 NFC Championship games they appeared in so they are clearly the most snakebitten franchise with Buffalo a very close second.

  86. bullcharger says: Apr 8, 2013 3:55 PM

On one hand it makes sense. That’s what everyone plays for.

On the otherhand, Kolb isn’t any good, and definitely isn’t better than Fitzmagic was.

  87. wludford says: Apr 8, 2013 4:00 PM

    Don’t hold your breath.

  88. swagger52 says: Apr 8, 2013 4:05 PM

  89. livepredictor says: Apr 8, 2013 4:10 PM

  90. drsummeroff says: Apr 8, 2013 4:14 PM

  91. billsboy88 says: Apr 8, 2013 4:15 PM

  93. thefiesty1 says: Apr 8, 2013 4:30 PM

  97. waxthat says: Apr 8, 2013 5:44 PM

I would like to see the Bills back to relevance. As a 49ers fan, I wish it were us that beat them in those SB’s. Too bad it was Smelly Jones and the cowgirls.

Good luck Kolb, but i feel like that missing piece (a winning QB) Is still out there rolling around in the hay with someone else. Kolb is a stop gap quarterback and nothing more.

  98. mazblast says: Apr 8, 2013 5:53 PM

  108. theuglitruth says: Apr 9, 2013 9:40 AM

Maybe he can learn to hit a seam route or a screen pass first, before he starts talking superbowl. In AZ, he couldn’t hit a wide open TE on the seam route to save his life! No way he starts.

  109. ihatethejets23 says: Apr 9, 2013 11:16 AM

To be fair, he didn’t guarantee a Super Bowl. He just said he wants to win one. As a diehard Bills fan, I’ll settle for a playoff appearance.

  110. firstnovaprime says: Apr 9, 2013 1:34 PM

Yeah keep telling yourself that! Don’t know what

  111. loyalfan89 says: Apr 9, 2013 7:45 PM

    At 125/1 odds…. I’ll throw a benji on it.

Everybody wants to joke on the Bills, that’s fine.
You Cowboys fans are a ridiculous, Romo is garbage.
Eagles fans, same thing, Vick blows.
    Attention AFC teams:
Buffalo is an easy target, but don’t cry when we snag a playoff spot you thought was yours.
