$1 million guaranteed for Tommy Kelly

Tommy Kelly AP

The contract recently signed by Patriots defensive tackle Tommy Kelly carries the same average as the value of the offer sheet signed Wednesday by receiver Emmanuel Sanders.

Per a source with knowledge of the deal, Kelly’s two-year contract has a total value of $5 million, or an  average of $2.5 million per year.

The only guarantee comes from a $1 million signing bonus.  In 2013, he’ll also earn a $950,000 base salary, along with a $500,000 roster bonus and a $50,000 workout bonus.

In 2014, the base salary climbs to $1.95 million, along with another $500,000 roster bonus and another $50,000 workout bonus.

The cap numbers are $2 million this year and $3 million in 2014.  And so it’s yet another low-dollar deal for an established veteran player.

Huh. Is he gonna play DE? Unless I missed something, Pats are already sitting pretty with Vince Wilfork and Kyle Love to play the nose.

Rg3 has no wheels, Jump ball Joe Flacco is a 20 million dollar joke and the Steelers don’t have two pennies to rub together. Let me know when the Super Bowl parade starts, ill be stripper fishing.

Well yeah…it’s not like he needed money after Al the mad man gave him a buttload of it and set him up for life…unless he blows it like most NFL players.

A young Raider fan saw Owner Mark Davis one day and said Mr. Davis, “What is the difference between theory and reality?”

“Well son, the best way to explain this is a practical exercise. Go and ask our General Manager Reggie McKenzie how he plans to return this team to greatness.”

The fan returned and shared, “He said first he wanted his own guys; his own scouting staff, his own coaches, & his own players. He also planned to sign Free Agents to 1 year deals. He closed by saying that you would be patient with the results”

Davis replied, “Now go ask Dennis Allen the same question”

The fan returned and said “Coach Allen explained that although the Zone Blocking Scheme didn’t work in his first season, that he would learn from it and try something new this year. Defensively, his team would be one of the most disciplined in the league. He also said that you would be patient with the results”

The fan then asked, “What does this have to do with theory and reality?”

Mark replied, “It’s simple, in theory our organization is only a couple years away from our 4th Super Bowl title. In reality I’m going to fire them both following this next season.”

Doesn’t seem that “low dollar” to me. They are sure spending to the cap. Hope it works out.

Neother Love nor Deaderick can consistently push the pocket, this guy can do that when motivated. Playing next to Vince he’ll be motivated or eaten..

1 minute after signing his contract, Tommy Kelly jumped offsides, removed his helmet, bumped a ref and was removed from the room. “Great” signing.

Pats have been in 4-3 mostly last few years. Vince likes it better than being stuck at the nose.

Between TK and Big Vince you are looking at a lot of toughness and strength at the point of attack. If the guy is 50% of what he’s been on that losing team , watch out. Was the rest of the league asleep? How do they keep finding guys like this?

Nice contract. I ‘d say that’s about $10K per off-sides penalty per season. He’ll earn that, just watch. Then there are the personal foul penalties…

TKelly has the talent and ability to be a monster but he’s dumb ith his emotions, and doesn’t put forth the effort late in close games. the patriots got him cheap so it’ll work for them.

If he was a high first round pick instead of an undrafted free agent he would probably still be happily underachieving on KC’s D-line.

Pat fans. Enjoy the penalties and lack of effort you’ll get out of Tommy.
