Looming South Florida stadium vote gets some early support

nfl_sunlifestadium1_600

Momentum is building toward a May 14 election that possibly could kill all momentum toward a proposed Sun Life Stadium renovation plan.

But at a time when the public mood tilts sharply away from what some call welfare for billionaires, early indications seem to be encouraging.

The Miami Herald supports the plan to increase hotel taxes by one percent and give a chunk of the money to the effort. Then again, the Herald has a clear interest in keeping the Dolphins in Miami. If the effort to renovate the stadium fails, some think that owner Stephen Ross will sell the team. And a new buyer could, in theory, move.

Moreover, a poll question posted at the Herald website currently shows strong support for the proposal. Of course, there’s a slight difference between people who vote on Internet polls and registered voters in Miami-Dade County who will choose to show up at the polls on the day in question.

And with only 714 votes as of this posting, we’ve got a feeling PFT Planet quickly will descend onto the link and cast their own non-binding ballots, which could turn the tide. Quickly.
