Rashad Jennings says he’s reached deal with Raiders

Rashad Jennings AP

Running back Rashad Jennings will be joining the Raiders, he said on Twitter Wednesday night.

Earlier Wednesday, Jennings worked out for Oakland, the running back said.

Jennings, who rushed for 283 yards on 101 carries in 2012 for Jacksonville, will compete for a backup role for the Raiders. The 6-1, 228-pound tailback has gained 944 yards in four NFL seasons, all with the Jaguars and mainly as a backup to Maurice Jones-Drew. Jennings missed the 2011 regular season with a knee injury.

Justin Forsett and Montell Owens are among the Jaguars’ tailback options behind Jones-Drew. The Jaguars have not drafted a back since 2010 (Deji Karim) and have a slew of other needs, but adding a younger rusher might make some sense.  The same also holds for the Raiders, what with McFadden’s deal up after 2013.

The 2013 Raiders will be the best NFL team that can be purchased at Wal-Mart.

well reggie has been busy the past few days…nice to see an offensive player sign. we also added Reggie Smith into the mix as well..\

    Keep it going Reggie!

Of those 944 career rushing yds, 70 came on 1 single play against the Raiders 2 yrs ago. It took him 20 seconds to go 70 yards. UNTOUCHED by Tyvon Branch, Michael Huff, Rolando McClain, et al.
Jennings was running so slow. I thought “fack! This guy is the slowest RB in NFL history”. Nobody even touched him. I threw up in my mouth.

He’ll Likely be the starter by week 5 when Mcfadden gets injured smh

From the jags to the raiders. This guy knows a loser when he sees one.

  6. msclemons67 says: Apr 10, 2013 10:41 PM

There are no backup running backs on the Raiders.

They are starters waiting until McFadden gets hurt.

  7. johnnybandwagon says: Apr 10, 2013 10:45 PM

    Big red still at it.

  8. murraysons says: Apr 10, 2013 10:49 PM

Some people just have Fast names. Rashad Jennings just SOUNDS fast, doesn’t he? Hence the Raiders.

  9. beckzhere says: Apr 10, 2013 10:53 PM

I guess Deji didn’t work out too well.

  10. commitment2excrement says: Apr 10, 2013 11:16 PM

Good for him, backup RB in Oakland will actually be a starter for at least 6 games.

  11. nflfolly says: Apr 10, 2013 11:34 PM

100 carries and 281 yards another blockbuster signing by Reggie LOL.

  12. oakraid says: Apr 10, 2013 11:42 PM

    Now trade McFragile for MJD

  13. raidernation4life says: Apr 10, 2013 11:57 PM

Welcome to Oakland Rashad. Be prepared to play. All backup RB’s end up needing to step up and contribute! I remember you tearing us up a couple of years back. I hope to see you back to that form.

  14. nflofficeadmin says: Apr 11, 2013 12:02 AM

Those numbers don’t average out too well, but I recall Jennings had a few nice games when he got in for the injured mjd.

  15. raiderman81 says: Apr 11, 2013 12:36 AM

Used to think reggie needed to sign a huge free ageng to sell tickets.. but I guess you can sell tickets just the same with solid under the radar pick ups.. porter.. jenkins.. young…. hansen…and now jennings….. nice moves reg…..

  16. westcoastraider says: Apr 11, 2013 12:44 AM

Wow… Just when I was starting to doubting Reggie Mack, he’s made some solid moves, although I won’t buy Jennings on the roster til I see it confirmed…

  17. anhdazman says: Apr 11, 2013 1:26 AM

I would have like to get Chris Ivory, but Saints put up a 2nd round tender for him.
RJ is the big RB that’s perfect to compliment McFadden’s game. With the power scheme, RJ will be very helpful in short yardage and goal line situations.
    I like this signing.
I think Oakland should keep the option of Felix Jones open. Teaming McFadden up with his college team mate could be very interesting. Two guys that could take it to the house every time they touch the ball and a Big burly RB for short yardage situation.

Raider haters and complainers should shut their pie holes and wait and see how the Raiders perform come seasons end. Why be so negative, be like me. My team(s) wins it all every year!

  19. crise40g says: Apr 11, 2013 2:39 AM

All these clueless haters. Reg Mc is fixing the problem he inherited and signing guys who want to work hard and have something to prove. Come next year when he has close to 70 mil on cap room, we’ll see who’ll be laughing. For the first time in how many years, the Raiders are going to build a team the right way. Gonna take time but it’ll pay off.

Best of luck Mr Liberty moving to the Bay Area.

  21. ern215 says: Apr 11, 2013 4:02 AM

keep it going reggie mac, get us a solid free safety to finalize the group and then, on to the next area of focus

  22. rubicon202 says: Apr 11, 2013 8:15 AM

I love Raider haters, love’em…oh, for Jags fans talking sh*t:
    Jacksonville Jaguars Franchise
    Regular Season Record (all-time) : 140-148-0
Playoff Record (all-time) : 5-6 (Last appearance after 2007 season)
Super Bowls Won: 0 out of 0 appearances
    Championships Won: 0

  23. thatstinks says: Apr 11, 2013 8:40 AM

I hope he plays better for the Raiders than he did for my fantasy football team last year . He was benched by me & the Jaguars .

  24. eklypse69 says: Apr 11, 2013 9:05 AM

It’s really refreshing to see Reggie work. He’s doing a hell of a job with the budget he has. None of these guys will ever be proclaimed the best in their respective positions by any means, but at least they’re all solid at their core. No more “Runs a 40 in 3.67, but couldn’t catch a cold in a daycare” type players.

And if you look at his history, he had quite the same operation in Green Bay. A few big ticket players, and the rest were budget players – solid for their position, but not overtly expensive.

  25. dmv2033 says: Apr 11, 2013 10:04 AM

Yes all the Jags fans hating on the Raiders. We’re just saying Jennings didnt quite work out well for us, and may not for you. Since the Raiders love to talk about how great they used to be, lets compare their records v. Jax since 1995 (sorry the Jags weren’t around before that):

    Regular Season Record (95-12) : 117-171
Playoff Record (95-12) : 4-3 (Last appearance after 2002 season)
Super Bowls Won: 0 out of 1 appearances
    Championships Won: 0

    Soooo, impressive.

  26. mtdwest816 says: Apr 11, 2013 10:05 AM

Reggie is preparing this team to be a real contender, building up depth right now, just finding some solid pieces. Next year we make our move and spend a crap load in free agency, 5-6 big names will be coming to Oakland, and we will draft well this year and next year. Oakland is going to be a team to look out for in 2014.

  27. nflfolly says: Apr 11, 2013 10:09 AM

100 carries 283 yards often injured, another blockbuster move by Reggie Mckenzie LOL .

  28. Raider-in-PA says: Apr 11, 2013 10:11 AM

Love Reg’s budget shopping… Just wait til next year with a full draft and mad cap money…

All the Raiders need to do this year is be competitive and not have any games like last year’s Tampa Bay game.

All is looking up in Raiderland!! Face it, after the hard times we endured over the last 10 years, the only way is upward!!

  29. nativeraider says: Apr 11, 2013 11:27 AM

Jeez the haters come out in droves when theres a RAIDERS post. Stick to your own team if you have nothing constructive (atleast) to say.

  30. mindset839 says: Apr 11, 2013 12:43 PM

Reggie is really getting it done. He has getting rid of just about every bad contract and the cap problem will finally be fixed after this year. Even with 50 million in dead money he has made several nice additions to the team. The linebackers he picked up are very impressive for the price that was paid. He is half way there in the defensive backfield and he has adde a couple nice pieces to the D-line. Now he is working on the offensive side of the ball a little. Flynn may pay huge dividends. All with very little cap space and trading away our draft picks! People need to understand how impressive this is. I don’t expect a lot this year but they will be competitive. Next year and years to come the Raiders will get better and better. The Raiders are doing it right.

  31. steelerben says: Apr 11, 2013 1:12 PM

A bigger and bigger part of me is hoping that the Raiders win the AFC West with a $70 million roster. It would be hillarious to see. The part of me that loved the blue collar Steeler teams over the years wants to see a bunch of after thoughts making the league minimum thrash the supposedly elite.

Moving forward there is going to be a TON of cap space, but if they are smart they won’t use it all at once. They need to track down who is going to be long term players for that team and keep rolling over their cap space until it is time to pay them.
