Vikings will unveil new stadium design next month

Metrodome-1

Last year, the Vikings got the green light to build a new stadium. This year, the building will move much closer to being a reality.

According to John Vomhof Jr. of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, the design for team’s new home remains on track to be unveiled in early May.

“We’re starting to get a feel for it,” Vikings V.P. of public affairs and stadium development Lester Bagley said. “We’re very excited about where it’s headed.”

Still, no decision has been made regarding the type of roof that will be used for the venue due to open in 2016. “Clearly a retractable feature is something that is important to the team,” Bagley said.

The stadium as approved by the Minnesota lawmakers includes a fixed (presumably blizzard resistant) top.

With or without a sliding roof, Bagley believes the stadium will be “iconic.” Without a contending team playing inside, however, that may not matter much to the people who’ll be paying for tickets there.
