Interest continues to rise in diminutive West Virginia receiver Tavon Austin.

In addition to the Rams, Bengals, Buccaneers, 49ers, and Jets, Austin also will make a final-week visit to the Lions.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Austin will wrap up his pre-draft tour with trips to see the Jets, Lions, and Buccaneers.  The Rams also will put him through a private workout in Morgantown.

Some think Austin’s floor will be the Rams at No. 16.  He ceiling isn’t clear, given his height.

He is just too small to be picked in the 1st for my liking. Wait on Swopes in the 2nd-3rd.

As a Bears fan, I hope he signs somewhere out of the division. (I wouldn’t mind Chicago drafting him, but doubt he makes it to #20.)

With the new rules in place it wouldn’t surprise me to see a midget play in the NFL soon.

I have never, in my entire life, heard so much about players coming out of West Virginia.
They must have one heck of a draft class.

Or maybe a pimp with an audience.

    Or something.

Could Austin possibly drop to Green Bay at 26?

Combined Tavon Austin the emerging Randall Cobb; Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense would be unstoppable. 50+ TDs for AR for sure.

  6. andrejohnsonforpresident says: Apr 14, 2013 5:27 PM

Doesn’t matter, he’s not going to be good in the nfl. He’s just not big enough. The only spot he’s gonna be able to play is slot. He’s still pretty short an light weight for that. 170-175 pounds? This guy will get destroyed by safeties an lbs.

Can we just get to the draft already!! So tired of seeing this guy goes here this guy goes there.. C’mon 25th.. Go D!!

  8. classactcalvin81 says: Apr 14, 2013 5:29 PM

Oh and unleess he’s going to The D somehow then he needs to stay out Of the NFC North. Peroid

Do you know your own team?

You guys already have 4 starting receivers: Cobb, Nelson, Finley, and Jones. Why waste your pick on Austin?

    Tavon Austin is fool’s gold.

Ranked 510th in YPC his senior year. Out of the 125 players with over 50 catches, he ranked 93rd. Please, Rams, don’t go there.

  11. dooz76 says: Apr 14, 2013 5:44 PM

I sure hope 20th is his floor. Austin in the slot for “Da Bears” would be huge for us.

  12. thegronk87 says: Apr 14, 2013 5:49 PM

Is there anything more obvious than the rams selecting is guy?

  13. boltncolt says: Apr 14, 2013 5:51 PM

They also said Russell Wilson was “too short.” His acceleration is ridiculous, LB’s and safeties will have to catch him before his size plays a factor. Love to see him on the bolts, but it’s just not the right fit… And he won’t make it to 11. He would be a huge asset to Detroit or Arizona, where he is playing with the two top WR’s in the game.

Never say anyone is too small just look at Steve Smith,Wes Welker,Desean Jackson.ect. Sounds corny but,you cannot judge a player by his size, but you can judge by his heart.

You have never watched this guy play! Safeties and LBs will hardly be able to touch him. Oh just so you know Tavon Austin has never missed a game in his life!

  16. melkipershero says: Apr 14, 2013 6:10 PM

Arent they all bigger than Austin? I mean dude is SMALL. Not to mention were any of them 1st rounders? I have a problem where hes projected to go. 2nd round great pick. Top 15? Risky AF.

  17. sourdoughsam says: Apr 14, 2013 6:29 PM

I hope every team but mine thinks he’s too short to go in the first round.

  18. linvillegorge says: Apr 14, 2013 6:46 PM

I hope he’s there at #14. I don’t want the Panthers to take him, but I’d love to be able to trade back and pick up an additional pick or two seeing that we only have five picks as it stands.

  19. ubepunkedagain says: Apr 14, 2013 6:52 PM

The team he will get drafted by is not on that little list of yours Florio.

  20. valcomm5 says: Apr 14, 2013 6:56 PM

Leave the dudes size outta this!!! He is probably a bigger man than you! Darren Sproles is pretty darn good isn’t he? GO RAMS

    Viking’s will bite.

He’s never played against NFL level talent in his life either.

  23. docboss says: Apr 14, 2013 7:32 PM

He is Akim without Holt or Bruce. Take a safety, then trade down for Allen.

  24. melkipershero says: Apr 14, 2013 7:49 PM

Sproles is 190. 15 or more pounds is a lot.

Hey Minn how about those 2 firsts for 16?

  25. detroitrollin22 says: Apr 14, 2013 10:38 PM

I’ve been saying it for about a month now, Austin will be drafted by Buffalo.

  26. myanks1 says: Apr 15, 2013 9:41 AM

Austin may be small, but he is the most dynamic player in this draft. He can play in the slot, backfield, or special teams. He is the most explosive player in this draft and has footwork like no other. His ability to cut and make people miss is amazing. At only 175 lbs he bench pressed 225 lbs for 14 reps which is more reps than Terrance Williams from Baylor put up who is 6’3 and 210 lbs. He is a strong dynamic guy who is extremely durable, he never missed a practice or game at WVU. He’s a top 10 pick in my book any day. Oh and watch his high lights from the Oklahoma game if you haven’t seen them!

  27. leoskoolaid says: Apr 15, 2013 10:48 AM

I would love to see him here in detroit next to calvin he be a beast 4.34 speed and all. Just run deep.

  28. hornsonhelmet1 says: Apr 17, 2013 12:50 PM

I hope the Rams do not select Tavon Austin at 16 or 22. Austin is an electric playmaker (no doubt ) but he does not have adequate size to stay healthy in the NFL; he is a true boom or bust pick. The Rams cannot afford to gamble with either of their two first picks. I really think the rams will will trade out of the 16th pick with Dallas if Vaccaro is still on the board and aquire another 3rd rounder. The Rams need picks to fill holes at Safety, OLB, and WR. I think they will draft Fluker and Cyprien or Ried in the first. Khasheen Greene in the second and Quinton Patton and Baccari Rambo in the third. These picks will fill their needs, and the remaining rounds of the draft they can draft the best players available to add depth to the roster. The future is bright for Rams Nation, Go Rams!
