Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent faces a September 23 trial date on intoxication manslaughter charges.
He also faces no impediment to showing up for offseason workouts, which begin today at Valley Ranch.
According to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, it’s not known whether Brent will show up. Per Williams, the Cowboys and Brent haven’t reached an agreement as to whether Brent will stay away.
Brent’s presence on the sidelines after the December 8 automobile accident that claimed the life of teammate Jerry Brown triggered criticism, and the team thereafter decided to keep Brent out of the public eye. With no suspension from the NFL or the team, Brent has every right to show up today.
If, as Williams states unequivocally, there is “no chance” Brent will play for the Cowboys in 2013, there’s really no reason for him to show up.
Then again, Tim Tebow showed up, and there’s apparently “no chance” he’ll play for the Jets this year.
