His release came as a mild surprise last year, and his return on a one-year deal wasn’t a shock after Fred Davis tore an Achilles tendon.

In 2013, long-time Redskins tight end Chris Cooley remains a free agent after nine NFL seasons. He told WUSA on Tuesday that he hasn’t heard from the team about a possible ninth season.

“I have no clue but you can ask [G.M.] Bruce Allen though or [coach] Mike Shanahan,” Cooley said, laughing. Cooley added that he wants to play for no one other than the Redskins.

“I’ll always be a part of the Redskins, I’m not part of the current roster right now but I’m part of this community because they embraced me so much as a player,” Cooley said.

In nine games with two starts in 2012, Cooley caught only one pass.
