As if the Patriots didn’t have enough tight end issues to worry about.

With Rob Gronkowski slow on the mend from last year’s broken arm and subsequent infection, the Patriots now have concerns about teammate Aaron Hernandez.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Hernandez had shoulder surgery this offseason, which will likely keep him out of OTAs and minicamp this spring. While there’s no word on the nature of the injury, there is a sense that he’ll be ready for training camp.

While the Patriots employ a cast of thousands at the position, being without the two best will complicate things this offseason, pushing off for months any attempt to get the offense ready for the season.
