NFL will release full 2013 schedule on Thursday night

Roger Goodell AP

It got pushed back a couple days, but the NFL is ready to unveil its 2013 schedule.

The league will formally unveil the regular-season schedule on Thursday at 8 p.m. Eastern. The schedule release had been tentatively expected to happen on Tuesday night, but the league confirmed on Monday that it was delaying the announcement.

We already know — and have known since the end of the 2012 regular season — every team’s home and away opponents, but the league puts a lot of work into the schedule, considering everything from putting marquee teams in prime time, to avoiding long road trips on short weeks, to keeping the Florida teams out of the sun on early afternoons in September, to avoiding conflicts with Jewish holidays for the New York teams.

Now all that work is finally done, and the NFL can unveil the schedule on Thursday night.

The only mystery is who will the Washington Redskins defeat next February at Metlife en route to Lombardi #4.

How about letting west coast teams play in the late afternoon games when traveling to the east coast?

  3. pacodawg says: Apr 16, 2013 11:33 AM

    Browns. 11-5. Lock

  4. sonoco says: Apr 16, 2013 11:47 AM

Kinda weird how the NFL inexplicably pushed the schedule release back from today, as if they knew there would be some event that would overshadow the schedule release …… hmmmmmmm.

Atleast I know I can go to bed early if there is another Raiders-Chargers Monday night game in Week 1

  6. schmitty2 says: Apr 16, 2013 11:57 AM

How about some primetime games for some westcoast teams like Niners’ vs Hawks and quit always having the usual suspects?

  7. johnnycash19 says: Apr 16, 2013 12:03 PM

I think I read on SBJ that. Ketz (is that his name?) tries to make sure that a visiting team that plays on Thursday doesn’t have a road game the prior week.

And upon hearing the good news, the younger brother of Peyton they call Eli proclaimed, “mazel tov!”

    “pacodawg says: Apr 16, 2013 11:33 AM

They will need a good QB before that ever happens.

  10. justintuckrule says: Apr 16, 2013 12:10 PM

They delayed the release to figure out a way to somehow charge fans for the info.

BTW – I doubt they put in “hard work” to create the schedule. I’m sure there is a computer algorithm that accounts for the variables mentioned, then spits out a schedule.

  11. paythevig says: Apr 16, 2013 12:14 PM

will it be similar to last year, in that no team can play more than 5 Prime Time games?

  12. bigdon76 says: Apr 16, 2013 12:18 PM

Making big deal out of the schedule.sorry goddell you cant make fans watch the realese show.I will watch espn to get my schedule.thanks for nothing nfl.if you know you can switch games late in the season then what is the holdup.oh wait 32 greedy owners trying to make a extra buck any way possible

  13. floridaslonechargersfan says: Apr 16, 2013 12:27 PM

If they originally planned to release it tonight, but decided yesterday they couldn’t because they hadn’t finalized the schedule, then figured it out in time to release by Thursday (and announce it before the originally planned time on Tuesday) why don’t they just release it at the originally scheduled time? Oh wait, this is Goodell’s NFL. That explains it.

  14. kepdogg23 says: Apr 16, 2013 12:27 PM

Browns might win their only game by a score of 11-5.

  15. dezbryant says: Apr 16, 2013 12:29 PM

Why do the Redskin and Browns fans talk so much in the off season ?

Ohh thats right because they have no reason to talk in the regular season.

“but the league puts a lot of work into the schedule, considering everything from putting marquee teams in prime time, to avoiding long road trips on short weeks”

Like they did when they had the 49ers come to Baltimore on Thanksgiving 2 years ago? I’m a huge Ravens fan and even I can admit how bogus that was.

  18. fwippel says: Apr 16, 2013 12:39 PM

How about cutting out these idiotic games in London, which invariably cost the “home” team a legitimate home game, for no other purpose than to perpetuate the league’s fantasy of putting a franchise there?

  19. dspyank2k11 says: Apr 16, 2013 12:45 PM

When they make the schedule release a prime time event.. the NFL is just being silly.

If you’re really glued to the TV during a prime time schedule release, you need to get a life. :)

  20. 4512dawg4512 says: Apr 16, 2013 1:04 PM

Browns already have a good QB in Weeden, they just need to actually stick with their QB for once

It all works out. East coast teams have to play some games at 9:00 PM. That’s 6:00 pm for the west coast. These games end at 11:00 or later for us.

dezbryant, Us Redskin fans have a hell of alot more to talk about than you Cowboys fans! You could however, talk about your over-paid QB who hasn’t won a thing, EVER, but instead chokes and costs his team, ALWAYS. Enjoy last in the division, we’ll be at the top looking down on you. ( Just like the entire country does )

    ===============================
Does this really matter? Its totally rigged anyway… Saints pick 15th but have 2nd hardest schedule…. In other unrelated news, Pats always get to dominate the Bills, Jets and Phins… Just imagine if the Saints were in that soft of a division…TOTAL DOMINATION lol..

  28. chawk12thman says: Apr 16, 2013 2:00 PM

Confidence in scheduling is not high given that the announcement had to be re-scheduled.

  29. scoocha says: Apr 16, 2013 2:06 PM

Quick scheduling note – NE on National TV all 16 games. NFL sucks.

Can you truly be that dumb?
The schedules are pre-determined-years ahead. The draft picking order is determined by the teams finish order at the end of the season. But don’t let facts get in the way……

  32. elscorcho5000 says: Apr 16, 2013 2:33 PM

sb44champs, what does the schedule have to do with your complaint about your division? Your team had the same record as Carolina and Tampa last season, what makes you think you’d dominate any division?!

    Saints’ other 2013 opponents:
    Home ………………….. Away
Arizona Cardinals; @ St. Louis Rams
San Francisco 49ers; @ Seattle Seahawks
Buffalo Bills; @ New England Patriots
Miami Dolphins; @ New York Jets
    Dallas Cowboys; @ Chicago Bears

Not exactly murder’s row there. Plus they get the 49ers and Dolphins at home. … New England and Seattle are the only real tough games Saints have. And by the way, Tampa and Carolina suck. Second-toughest schedule every year my a$$.

  35. beerbudsnbevo says: Apr 16, 2013 2:50 PM

I know there are gonna be some thumbs down on this… But it is the facts…

Cowboys will open the season on the road against a division opponent, and close the regular season on the road against a division opponent…

    Happens every year…

    That’s wrong.

Does Mara help make the schedules?

  36. paythevig says: Apr 16, 2013 2:53 PM

Outside of thanksgiving – football should only be played on sunday’s and monday’s. In the United States, alone. NOT in Canada, and DEFINITELY NOT in the UK.

    (I am from Toronto)

I know because you are just oh so smart… These are the facts: Saints opponent’s have the 2nd highest winning percentage in the league and Goodell will do anything to ruin another Saints season..

  40. goodellisruiningtheleague says: Apr 16, 2013 4:27 PM

Who cares about an announcement? We all know whoever LOSES to the Redskins this season will go on to win the Super Bowl just like previous years (NY, BAL, Packers, etc…) One of these teams will be the 2013 Super Bowl Champions:

NY Giants, Philly, Dallas, Bears, Lions, 49ers, Chiefs, Chargers, Packers, Vikings, Falcons, Broncos or Raiders.

My money is on the 49ers or Broncos to win the Super Bowl.

  41. jacktheraven says: Apr 16, 2013 4:35 PM

I do know The Ravens will be on opening night, and on the road. My guess is Denver. If not, then Chicago.
