Madden says “there will never be another” like Summerall

Hall of Fame coach John Madden joined Wednesday’s Pro Football Talk to discuss the passing of his 21-year on-air partner, Pat Summerall.

“There were voices of the NFL before Pat Summerall.  There are voices of the NFL after Pat Summerall.  But there will never be another one like Pat Summerall,” Madden told Erik Kuselias.

Madden said two games stand out from their time together in the broadcast booth.  One came in 1979, when they worked together for the first time.  The other came in 1982, when they worked Super Bowl XVI, between the Bengals and 49ers.

Here’s the full interview with John Madden.

No doubt about that. The Summerall/Madden team was unlike any other. Really a pleasure to listen to.
