As Mike Florio noted earlier Wednesday, we are running out of shopping days in restricted free agency.

Could the Packers -- the Packers? -- be last-minute shoppers?

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, Steelers nose tackle Steve McLendon has visited with Green Bay, which employs a 3-4 front just like Pittsburgh does.

Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com, who also reported news of the visit, said Green Bay met with McLendon on Wednesday.

The Steelers tendered the 27-year-old McLendon a contract before the start of the 2013 league year and can match any offer sheet. However, if they declined to match a deal, the signing team would not have to surrender any draft-pick compensation.

The Packers’ interest level in McLendon is unclear, but he is a scheme fit for Green Bay, and he has the bulk to contribute as a reserve throughout a three-player defensive line. Though he’s listed at 280 pounds by the Steelers and NFL.com, McLendon was 325 pounds last August, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said.

With long-time starting nose tackle Casey Hampton an unrestricted free agent, McLendon could have a bigger role in the Pittsburgh defense in 2013. The question now is whether the Packers -- hardly known for their free agency activity -- make a play for McLendon.
