Return of Revis? Bucs at Jets set for Week One

Although the NFL hasn’t yet released the full 2013 regular-season schedule, some details are trickling in. And those details include one game that may be as intriguing as a Week One matchup of two teams coming off losing seasons could be.

In Week One, the Jets will host the Buccaneers, according to Mike Garafolo of USA Today.

That game wouldn’t mean much under ordinary circumstances. But there’s a strong possibility that the Jets will trade their best player, cornerback Darrelle Revis, to Tampa Bay this offseason. And if they do, that would make Bucs-Jets one of the biggest games of Week One.

The NFL tries to create as many compelling storylines as possible when laying out the schedule. There’s little doubt that the possibility of a Revis trade was part of the thinking inside the league office when Bucs-Jets was scheduled.

    Bucs start the year 1-0

This sounds good from a storyline perspective, but it’s not like the Jets have any receivers that are going to give Revis problems on the field.

    Jets 0-1

At this rate, the Jets will trade Revis to Tampa on the morning of the game so he can just hop on the team charter flight afterwards.

Looks like Revis might have a couple of picks regardless of who he’s playing for.

Compelling though it might be, ad managers aren’t going to be telling their agents to buy much second-half time. The game should be all, but over by the end of the first quarter. In the New York metro market anyway.

It’s the QB match-up we all want to see … Freeman and Sanchez/Garrard/Tebow/?

  10. blacknole08 says: Apr 18, 2013 7:49 PM

Bucs will win that one and Revis gets an INT regardless.

exactly…the NFL is the new WWE
what a joke, score a touchdown, hand them a microphone to talk some smack, The NFL is too predictable

That will be funny to see Rex’s face when Revis intercepts a Sanchez overthrow. Other than that, I have zero interest in this game.

  13. string888 says: Apr 18, 2013 7:53 PM

That’s a weak theory. Revis may not even be ready to play week 1. If the NFL wanted to highlight that possible match up they would have scheduled the game later in the year.

Hopefully early game and only seen in tampa and new york!

I’d watch for the entertainment value. Just think of Rex making decisions with Marty calling plays.

Almost as good a storyline that the Dolphins had no less than 20 QBs since Marino.

it would be smart to trade him to bucs after the game

  19. spedman24 says: Apr 18, 2013 8:50 PM

At least the Jets will start 1-0. Tampa stinks.

  20. mec693 says: Apr 18, 2013 9:13 PM

Jets are gonna start the season 1-0.. haters

  21. dogman9 says: Apr 18, 2013 9:33 PM

Tampa has no chance of winning @ Jets week 1. Then the Jets can go 2-0 by beating the Patsies in week #2, smackdown every loser nfl reporter in the process, sweet.

  22. malkinrulez says: Apr 18, 2013 9:45 PM

spedman24 Tampa stinks? Have u looked at the Jets roster recently? Bucs offensive line one of the best in the NFL. I’ll take the Bucs and the points

Can’t wait for Revis to be the difference for Jets defeating Bucs. Talk about blown opportunities for Tampa.

Sanchez is 4 and O in season openers.

Gee whiz. If I didn’t know better I might think that they did this on purpose… What a wild coincidence. Gee whiz.

Bucs fans, tell me what you think:

Tough to predict before the draft and until we have all of our pieces in place, but here is my prediction:

    1st 4 games: 2-2
Wins against jets and cardinals should come relatively easy. We usually split with NO, so Ill assume this will be a loss along with a tough loss in NE

    2nd 4 games: 2-2
Eagles and Panthers should be wins. Losses to ATL and a very tough SEA team (both away games)

    3rd 4 games: 4-0
Wins against MIA, DET, and CAR should come. The ATL game will be close, but we typically split with them so Ill assume this is a win.

    4th 4 games: 3-1
Bills, Rams, and Saints should be wins. San Fran is a possible win with them traveling a long way after playing Seattle the week before. I will count it as a loss though, as they are still a much more talented team.

The 1st half of the season, I have us going 4-4. Hopefully, a rough start until week 4 will not hurt our confidence. If we can squeeze out a win against either the PATS or Saints in these first few weeks, this should shape our season and give us a huge boost of momentum going into the bye week.

The 2nd half of the season, I have us going 7-1. This would show some serious improvement due to the fact that the past two seasons we have stunk it up in the 2nd half of the seasons. I know its a bold prediction, but 6 of our last 8 are EXTREMELY winnable games. Again, this is a pre-draft prediction, so many things can change. I see us winning 9-11 games which should be worthy of a wildcard spot if the latter happens.

    GO BUCS!!!
