Sanchez says Jets brought the circus on themselves

New York Jets v Buffalo Bills Getty Images

As the Jets appear to be headed toward a Tim Tebow-less existence, the other quarterback appears to be more willing to speak up.

Mark Sanchez seemed to point the finger for the circus atmosphere at the team itself, in a radio interview with Fox Sports Radio’s Petros and Money show.

“I just don’t know if it was the best situation for either of us, but you play with the cards you are dealt with and do the very best you can,” Sanchez said of the round-the-clock Tebow coverage, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “Well, I think part of that, too, is ESPN didn’t necessarily sneak in overnight at our training camp. They had to get permission to go. You can avoid that stuff on your own if you like, in my opinion, but he’s a popular guy and people gravitate towards the guy.

“He’s a special person and a heck of a competitor, so people want to know what’s going on, but that’s all I got on that.”

That’s actually quite enough, Mark.

Sanchez went on to talk about having a good working relationship with Tebow, and by all accounts, that’s easy to believe.

But he can also be a little sore with his bosses for creating a near-impossible situation.

Hey Mark, if you could play qb in the NFL there would have been no controversy or circus. Point the finger at yourself my friend.

“But he can also be a little sore with his bosses for creating a near-impossible situation.”

And Jets fans can be sore that this turd is still the starting QB.

    Buttfumble. That is all.

  4. lgbarn says: Apr 19, 2013 1:40 PM

Good and accurate remark by Sanchez.

  5. thehouseofho says: Apr 19, 2013 1:41 PM

Of course the Jets brought the circus on themselves. The trade for Tebow was nothing more than a publicity stunt by the owner to try to get butts in seats.

If Sanchez stepped up his game instead of being jealous over Tebow’s popularity, there would be no talk of Tebow right now. Instead, Mark regressed as a quarterback even though Rex clearly stacked the deck in his favor.

  6. miriam45 says: Apr 19, 2013 1:42 PM

It’s easy for Sanchez to like Tebow because there was no way Tebow could have taken his job.

  7. scoops1 says: Apr 19, 2013 1:44 PM

any guy who wears White Pants automatically qualifies to be in a circus

  8. surfinbird1 says: Apr 19, 2013 1:45 PM

Snatchead is 100% correct, and he only one of the many clowns they brought in to the circus.

  9. explosionsauce says: Apr 19, 2013 1:48 PM

No playoffs= no jobs for Rex and Sanchez. Rex might have to laser that tattoo.

  10. hehateme2 says: Apr 19, 2013 1:50 PM

Sanchez will never be the popular figure Tebow is.
However, still having the “deer in the headlights” looks this long shows what he is. Not a starter.

  11. thestrategyexpert says: Apr 19, 2013 1:51 PM

But the Jets wouldn’t have extended Sanchez and brought in Tebow unless it was a good football decision. The Jets surely have a great plan here to dominate with this pair or one or the other. I’m still waiting and asking where all the wins are at?

  12. getyourownname says: Apr 19, 2013 1:53 PM

Sanchez may not be an NFL caliber QB, but all you can ask is that he play as well as he can.

It’s up to the team to create the best environment for players to do as well as they are able. No one ever accused the Jets organization, of doing that. And no one will ever accuse Ryan of doing all that a HC can do.

  14. enochmh2 says: Apr 19, 2013 2:02 PM

Neither of them are starters! Tebow fans sanchez has two championship game appearances so dont start quoting his lone playoff win as justification

  15. captainwisdom8888 says: Apr 19, 2013 2:03 PM

The entirety of Mark Sanchez’s career accomplishments can be summed up by a “butt fumble.”

How much longer til Sanchez goes to the Dolphins? Where he could at least win over the Hispanic fans regardless of his ability to play QB.

That was by far more of a product of Rex Ryan than Mark Sanchez.

Stephen Ross gets eviscerated in the media after making some new-owner blunders, but Woody Johnson does everything terribly and gets a free pass almost every time. I honestly have no idea why.

All in all it is jets organization’s fault
    Giving Sanchez a contract extension
Bring in tebow the very next year
And allow media to excessively cover him

  20. kevingreene160sacknoHOFclub says: Apr 19, 2013 2:25 PM

Let Sanchez embarrass himself for one more year, removing all doubt. Let Revis play out his last season so he can promptly bolt. Then Rex Ryan can finally be shown the door and we can call Gomez Adams to blow up this ungodly little toy train set.

  21. hehateme2 says: Apr 19, 2013 2:25 PM

NOT gonna happen. The Dolphins have a young upcoming franchise QB. You know… what sanchez was supposed to be? Keep dreaming,

  23. footballfan80 says: Apr 19, 2013 2:29 PM

    PeterKingLovesCoqAVin:

Its very simple why. Overall, the Jets have been one of the more successfull teams over the last decade or so in the NFL. The Dolphins havent won 1 freakin playoff game since 2000. And they only have been in the playoffs once altogether in that time frame. That is pretty pathetic if you asked me.

  24. jimmyt says: Apr 19, 2013 2:33 PM

Betcha the Jets would have won more games with Tebow as the starting QB.

  25. seaeagle707 says: Apr 19, 2013 2:46 PM

There’s great players at every position. Then there’s good players. Finally there’s guys who should have been shoe salesmen. Nothing wrong in that profession, but it ain’t quarterbacking an NFL team. I think that Mark started out good, but regressed as it went along. Some of that is on the coaches and OC.

The Jets have had better guys under center. This time you didn’t. Live and learn, and hope that you’ll do better in the future.

Oh, and get rid of Rex the Human Jumbotron, who is definitely the ringleader of this circus.

    I’m a Jets fan.

Fact of the matter is, Mark Sanchez stinks. He doesn’t stink because they brought Tebow in; he stank long before Tebow ever showed up.

So Mark can blame whomever and whatever he wants: the media coverage, the Tebow trade, the publicity, etc. Bottom line is, Mark isn’t good at football. If he were, Tebow wouldn’t have mattered.

The very fact that Mark was unnerved by a guy who can’t throw a football shows what a mental midget he is.

  28. greysolon says: Apr 19, 2013 2:59 PM

The trade was a mistake because they didn’t know what to do with Tebow.

It wasn’t really a Tebow-driven circus last year at all, except for maybe at the beginning. In fact, Tebow just plain disappeared there.

In reality, the Jets are a circus as an organization, and Sanchez has been terribly disappointing. The Tebow thing was just a short sideshow.

Say what you want about Mark’s QB skills (or lack thereof)…but he has totally handled the Tebow stuff, buttfumble jokes, media hordes, GQ quips with the right attitude and the correct responses. He hasn’t pulled a Ryan Leaf or Jay Cutler tantrum or shown any passive aggressiveness behavior.

Which I think is admirable on its own.

  33. seaeagle707 says: Apr 19, 2013 3:33 PM

PeterKingLovesCoqAVin- Why can’t these guys have short ID’s? Don’t know what business Ross, is connected to. Woody IS Johnson & Johnson. As in hundreds of consumer products (Band-Aid ring a bell?). Also subsidiaries producing hordes of surgical and hospital products. All of those mean advertising dollars. Millions and millions of advert dollars.

Would you risk offending one of your best customers, needlessly?

  34. jchuber says: Apr 19, 2013 3:37 PM

    Hey Mark,
Please tell us how Tebow affected your won/loss record? How about your completions vs interceptions ratio? Maybe you lousy qb rating?
    Did Tebow loose any games?

Somebody need to build a fire under you!!!!!
But you can’t seem to pull your head out of your axx.
Finally, I’m glad you are a looser. I hope they pay you 100 million per season and keep you forever!!!!!!!

CONGRATS! You won the “Pick a name most opposite of yourself” contest.

What ever team you root for, I can guarantee they didn’t go to a conference championship in their quarterback’s first two years.
So basically you’re just reduced to an ignorant racist. Right?

  42. cliverush says: Apr 19, 2013 4:50 PM

Prior to the draft many coaches thought that Sanchez should have stayed in school for another year learning. He stated since he was only the starter in college for a year he could not be ready for the NFL. This young man has been thrust into one of the most difficult situations in sports. While I enjoy reading the NY papers I would not want to be the subject.

  43. thesteelers says: Apr 19, 2013 5:08 PM

Sanchez, you were the #1 contributor to the circus last year. You will go down in history as a pathetic, illegitimate quarterback. How does that make you feel?

    I could not agree more!
The however part is….99% of the Jets haters here repeat the same crap daily. We understand about Rex, Tanny, circus, clown, etc.
A knowledgeable football fan wouldn’t sing the same song daily. I’ve been disgusted since about week 4 or 5 with Sanchez’ non-performance.
If I were “tired of reading about the Jets”, I wouldn’t not only reply…but I wouldn’t bother reading Florio’s instagating-driven drivel.
And….how many teams lost their #1 offensive and defensive performer with 12 games to go?
Additionally, front office mistakes were tragic.
    Good post.

Guy took friggin’ Sanchez to two conference title games (his defense also beat Peyton/Brady in back to back weeks) ….

But if the Jets wanna fire Rex, heck – just trade him to my Packers – Make Rex Ryan our D-Coordinator.

  52. 1joecoleman says: Apr 20, 2013 8:57 AM

    @enochmh2
Correction: The Jets defense had two championship game appearances. I hope Sanchoke is traded or benched. I don’t care about their money or loss thereof. Mistakes are made (too many by the Jets organization) and hopefully Woody wises up! Maybe Idzik helps turn it around or maybe we could continue to talk about issues that we all know will inevitably get us nowhere but in the headlines once again and not in a good way! Tebow needs too much work, Sanchez sucks and STOP signing “has-beens” for QB competitions! I hate to say it with this year’s draft class, but draft a starter quality QB, build around him and move on!

  53. nekelund says: Apr 20, 2013 6:05 PM

I think Sanchez was trying to point the finger somewhere else but, as usual, he missed his target completely.
