Bengals work out Cyprien

The Bengals could go in plenty of different directions with the 21st overall pick in the draft.  Despite plenty of veterans at every level of the defense, the Bengals would benefit from youth at every level, too.

Especially safety.

And so they’re doing their due diligence with Florida International’s Jonathan Cyprien.  Per a source with knowledge of the situation, defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will put Cyprien through a private, on-campus workout on Monday.

The Bengals arguably could trade down and get Cyprien later in round one.  Or possibly at the top of round two.

Then again, there’s a chance he’ll be gone by the time the Bengals are on the clock at 21.

That’s part of the frustrating-yet-fascinating nature of this year’s draft.  There are few locks, and there is little clarity about the manner in which the top of the draft will unfold.

With the lack of consensus I am not sure if anyone can determine when someone else would select a player so trading down when the player is there makes little sense. Especially when this is the one position on defense without a proven starter to play besides Nelson.

I hope pittsburgh takes him. He’s the most overrated player in the draft class. You seriously can’t tell me he’s better than Rambo, Reid, or Elam. It would fit in with pittsburgh’s recent draft strategy to reach badly for him.

What is with this small cadre of bitter Ravens fans who post negative junk on every non Ravens post? People, your team just won a SB, be happy for goodness sake.

If I were a defensive player, Zimmer is one of a handful of DCs I’d love to play for.

I just hope we don’t end up with a player similar to Taylor Mays… all the measurable attributes are off the charts amazing athlete just can’t play worth a damn but if we hit this one right the defense goes from great to elite

Mays will start for 2013 and have a break out year.
