Mara says Cruz deal “will get done at some point”

AP

With the deadline for a restricted free agent offer sheet come and gone, Victor Cruz’s options are limited.

But Giants co-owner John Mara sounded an optimistic note Monday night, saying a deal for the wide receiver will happen.

It will get done at some point,” Mara said, via Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger. “Just be patient.”

That’s easy for Mara to say, his financial future is fairly secure.

Cruz is now limited to staying away or playing out this year on his $2.8 million tender — unless the Giants choose to replace on June 17  it with a 10 percent raise over last year (which would be $594,000).

Doing so would not help their efforts toward making him happy with a long-term contract, but at the moment, the leverage is theirs.

Mara didn’t comment further on the situation, and Cruz didn’t talk to reporters on his way into the same charity event.

But at the moment, there’s not a lot else to say.

  1. Oh a Cruz deal will get done…now which team the deal is done with is the question now.

  2. Cruz’ financial future is pretty secure as well. Even if he had to “make do” with the $2.8M without a contract and untold millions from endorsements he’ll probably be able to pay his bills. Give me a break with the drama, as if he’s gonna have to stand outside 7/11 and beg for change.

  3. Play out your contract and prove you should get a better one. So sick of this nonsense. You signed it, now honor it . Same goes for teams themselves. You signed a big deal? Pay it. How there aren’t more bad faith lawsuits is beyond me.

  4. If He keeps this up, he’s Cruz’n for a Bruiz’n. Bottom line is that he wants to be a Giant, he’s just playing chicken with them trying to get every dime he can, who can blame the guy?

However, it should be no more than 8 million dollars a year IMO, otherwise, the Giants will lose this game of chicken..

  5. If Cruz wants to get to a Super Bowl he’ll get out of the New Jersey as soon as he cans. No one wants to play for a dirty, classless, second rate organization like the Giants. While the Redskins are busy winning Super Bowls the Giants will be trying to nickel and dime players and throw stones at the best owner in sports, Dan Snyder.

  6. logicailvoicesays… absolutely nothing relevant. Apparently he missed the 2 pretty recent NY Giant SBs. WAS won one when??

Cruz and the Giants will work out a deal–at the right price.

  7. Why would Victor not sign the original 7 mil deal originally offered by Mara?

You are good Victor but not a Wes Welker are you? Sign it and show us why you are worth more for next year.

  8. I understand he’s out played his contract but why not play out one last year? He performs again hell have all the leverage in the world and they’ll have to pay him even more!

Yeah I get it you could have a career ending injury but that’s not very common. Johnny Knox is the most recent cautionary tale but manning wont put him in a bad sifuation

  9. yeah Cruz and the Giants will work out a deal when Mara penalizes I mean forces Goodell and the rest of the league to penalize the Eagles for being better then(I menat following the rules) the Giants.

  10. Whatever Cruz gets, Nicks deserves more.
Nicks is a top 3 WR.
    Pay Cruz 7.5-8mill/year & Nicks 10mill/year

Let Eli win another 2 rings with those 2 before he rides off into the sunset as the greatest QB of all time.

    GO BIG BLUE!!!

Where you even out of your diapers when the Skins last won a Super Bowl? And as for Synder the only thing he is best at is making pretzels.
