Chiefs will take Eric Fisher

Eric Fisher AP

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to make former Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft.

The Chiefs will take Fisher with the first pick, a source with knowledge of the team’s plans told PFT’s Mike Florio.

For Fisher, tonight will culminate a rapid rise for a player who grew up in Michigan and couldn’t even get a Big Ten team to give him a shot. Even during his impressive senior season in 2012, few thought he had the makings of a top overall pick, but after a strong showing at the Senior Bowl, the Scouting Combine and in individual meetings with NFL teams, it became clear that many NFL coaches loved his toughness and potential.

And the Chiefs love Fisher enough to make him the first player called tonight.

Good for him. If this is true, then it definitely supports the idea of working your butt off will pay off over time.

watched some tape on this kid and he’s a blue chip solid player great pick for the chiefs!

Good luck to you Fisher. You’re about to find out what it’s like to play for one of the worst teams in football. And they’re not going to get better anytime soon. You’ll be traded in couple years for something stupid. It’s the Chiefs way

  6. brassknuckles47 says: Apr 25, 2013 5:15 PM

Chiefs are not just one player away from the playoffs. Trade out of the #1 pick and gain 4 players. There are enough teams that will want ‘in’ on that.

  7. brownoholic says: Apr 25, 2013 5:15 PM

Thanks. Now excuse me while I avoid all media til 8 pm…

  8. mec693 says: Apr 25, 2013 5:16 PM

he’s gonna be a great player.. NFL lacks that old school, smashmouth, not overly gifted but grinds it out, tough tackles from back in the day when the league was less flash and more smash. I’m excited to see this guy run through defensive lineman on Sundays

  9. pinchekeith says: Apr 25, 2013 5:17 PM

For all this talk about not tipping picks, you sure just did tip the pick PFT

  10. whitdog23 says: Apr 25, 2013 5:17 PM

EVERYTHING you read on this site all week is now wrong.
teams won’t be trading down. you’ll see.

  11. s1138 says: Apr 25, 2013 5:17 PM

I find it hard to be lieve that an Andy Reid team would let the pick be known before the commisioner calls it out. That being said, I like the pick and wish the guy luck.

  12. XRayTiD says: Apr 25, 2013 5:18 PM

Sounds like no one offered enough for them to trade down, I thought they would actually be able to pull off the same thing the Vikings did last year with Matt Kalil but I guess the player value wasn’t there for teams or the Chiefs were just asking for too much

  13. bender4700 says: Apr 25, 2013 5:18 PM

So much for not tipping picks. Your own poll showed the VAST majority would rather know when it’s announced. But continue to call out ESPN for their integrity.

  20. freebird2011 says: Apr 25, 2013 5:22 PM

    Excellent pick for the Chiefs.

  22. scmems07 says: Apr 25, 2013 5:25 PM

i like this guy, but i would rather spend the 1st pick on a LT who played against NFL quality DE’s at A&M in the sec and did well than a guy who was playing against DE’s from teams like western kentucky.i know he had a good game in the senior bowl, but it was one game.

  29. eatitfanboy says: Apr 25, 2013 5:31 PM

So despite not playing like a number pick while actually playing football, he won the post season underwear olympics and will now be the number one pick.

    Google the “definition of insanity”.

  30. tailgateheaven says: Apr 25, 2013 5:33 PM

You have to be a few fries short of a Happy Meal to think that – after all these years of teams sensationalizing, leaking, vetting and throwing smoke screens out to the overanalyzing Kiper’s / Florio’s (Revis has boarded the plane) of the world – anything is definitive.

If KC drafted Lindsey Lohan at 8pm I wouldn’t be shocked. C’mon Florio…..they aren’t disclosing jackshiat…..even to you. And what is ironic – “you know that”

  37. ekj6955 says: Apr 25, 2013 5:41 PM

Maybe I’m wrong, but to me this isn’t tipping the pick. This is a rumor, on the “rumormill” portion of PFT. Tipping picks is when the cameras show the player getting called and he is jumping up and down before Goddell reads the name. So to me, still a rumor.

  38. stillers35 says: Apr 25, 2013 5:43 PM

Why do I keep coming back to this site when every headline irritates me more than the one before? I dont believe anything a team leaks 2 hrs before the draft. Let it play out. We dont need to know until Roger the almighty tells us.

  49. ghlatty says: Apr 25, 2013 5:50 PM

Did something change in the new CBA?? I thought the team with the 1st overall pick was free to negotiate with any potential pick and announce it whenever they wanted. Now the 2nd team is free to do the same, right??

  50. jaygon says: Apr 25, 2013 5:51 PM

Don’t come to a news and rumors website or twitter and complain that people doing there jobs are doing there jobs. Find something else to do until 8 because teams aren’t going to wait until then and it is there JOBS to report stuff when it happens.

  62. godevilsasu says: Apr 25, 2013 6:14 PM

  81. greymares says: Apr 25, 2013 7:29 PM

  92. jprcox says: Apr 25, 2013 8:20 PM

Getting excited about an OT is like getting excited about your CPA. A good CPA can mean a big difference in your financial health, but you aren’t going to show’m off like a brand new sports car. Yet, it is the CPA who made you able to afford your sports car.

  93. broncosnative says: Apr 26, 2013 12:54 AM

IMO, it takes the fun out of the draft when picks are leaked. What’s the point of goodell announcing the pick if everybody already knows. What I think should happen is the first 2 rounds, no picks should be leaked until announced and the remaining rounds could be tweaked. It’s like watching a movie while someone is telling you what happens before it happens
