If the Chiefs want to get a second round pick in this year’s draft in a trade for T Branden Albert, time’s running short to make a deal happen.

General Manager John Dorsey said Thursday night that he will resume discussions with Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland on Friday about a deal that would send Albert to Miami. According to multiple reports, the Dolphins have agreed to a financial framework for a long-term deal with Albert with the teams haggling over draft pick compensation headed back to Kansas City.

With a second-round pick believed to be the Chiefs’ desired price for Albert, some wondered if the Dolphins’ decision to trade up for defensive end Dion Jordan would put an end to Albert discussions. They used the 42nd overall pick in that deal, the higher of their two second-rounders and the one the Chiefs were believed to be targeting. Dorsey was asked Thursday if the 54th pick would be enough to get the trade done.

“Would I make that trade if it was offered to me? I don’t know,” Dorsey said, via the Associated Press. “That’s an unknown. Until something happens, I really don’t know.”

The Chiefs have been insistent that they had no problem keeping Albert even after drafting a tackle with the first overall pick. Today will test their resolve if the Dolphins hold fast to the offer that Dorsey has thus far rejected since other bidders don’t appear to be on the radar with the second day of the draft upon us.
