Lawrence Jackson tweets he’s heading to Minnesota

Lawrence Jackson AP

Former Detroit Lions defensive end Lawrence Jackson appears to have a new home.

Jackson visited the Minnesota Vikings last week along with cornerback Jacob Lacey. The visit apparently left a good impression as Jackson tweeted out Thursday night that he would be joining the Vikings organization on a one-year deal.

Jackson said that the decision not to re-sign with Detroit had nothing to do with the Lions’ selection of BYU defensive end Ezekiel Ansah. He said he actually agreed to the deal with Minnesota Wednesday night long before the Lions drafted Ansah. He added that Detroit did offer him a deal but he elected to look around for additional options.

A former first round pick of the Seattle Seahawks, Jackson has 13 sacks in three season with the Lions.

It’s clearly known, by now … after the first round of the 2013 draft … the Vikings are in play to be playoff contenders again this year. After all … they proved you and many others wrong that they have the talent to succeed.

Not that this signing means much … but KUDOS to the Vikings brass.

Whats the big deal,he didnt exactly help the Lions win many games last season with his steller play.he was a Lion,no need to get excited in Vikingland over an ex Detroit Lion.

What just happend, tokey, and filth……Vikes 1st rounders must have you pretty worried. Don’t need a $20 mil QB……..We got AD! Go troll on the 49ers threads.

Solid rotational guy in Detroit. I was always hoping he would get more playing time than he did…. Too bad he went to a division rival.

Good luck not playing next to Suh, Williams, and Fairley, with Olines leaning towards the speed rusher on the other side of you…

I really do wish him luck, but I don’t think the Vikings have the interior Dline to make him as effective as he could have been in the D.

    Can he play middle linebacker?

I think Kevin Williams and Shariff Floyd will want to have something to say abou that.

I mean sure they dont kick people in the groin or get DUI’s but Williams is a 6x Pro Bowler.

    WE COMIN!

Actually, I’m not too worried about three draft picks that you guys claim are going to be starters. Your rookie cornerback has never seen anything like he’s going to see six times this year with the quarterbacks in the NFC North. Shariff Floyd is no Nick Perry and all of you Viking fans last year were saying how a rookie isn’t going to make much impact, but now you’re saying that they well. Interesting. And as for your new wide receiver…. Please. Christian ponder won’t be able to get it within 10 yards of this new “talent.”

The Vikings overachieved last season and if they are anything more than eight and eight this year it will be another overachieving season. Everyone outside of the land of 10,000 idiots, whoops I mean lakes, knows it.

  13. truthserum4u says: Apr 26, 2013 12:13 PM

    toky –

You’re right, Floyd isn’t Nick Perry, he’s graded out as a much, much better prospect!

Let’s see…Playoff team that was just one win behind your beloved Packers. Seven Pro Bowl players and could have had another four selected. Controlled games against some of the best in the NFL (49ers, Texans, Bears & Packers) all during a rebuilding year while fielding one the youngest teams in the league.

Seeing all of the production from last year’s rookie class give’s the Vikings fan’s reasonable expectations that this year’s will provide some help; especially when the team has added the top rated DT, 2nd rated CB & 2nd rated WR on many boards.

  14. gcounterman says: Apr 26, 2013 12:29 PM

As a Vikings fan, my realistic expectations last year were maybe 4-12 or 6-10… Definitely figured it was going to be a terrible season. Unproven QB, Purple Jesus coming back from injury, consistently suspect secondary, Percy’s migraines…

After going 10-6 in a year they had no business doing so… I can’t help but be very optimistic about this year.

Although I’m not thrilled about the amount of picks they gave up to get back in the first round, I must admit that they filled two immediate holes with players that need minimal development at WR and CB. The filled a future hole by getting the best value pick in the first round by far.

Can’t wait to see what the season brings. Time to give Urlacher his one year money and get ready for the Vikings circus!

  15. zayzillionz says: Apr 26, 2013 12:54 PM

Anyone who says Minnesota didnt have the best first round in recent memory is either a hater or cant stand the fact that Minnesota got 3 top 15 talents in the back end of the first round… I mean come on everyone knows even with Christian Ponder’s subpar play last year he didnt have nearly as many weapons that a QB needs to be successful after Percy who was his guy? Rudolph is an exception but hes a TE, with Cordarelle Patterson and Greg Jennings along with Kyle Rudolph and Jarius Wright not to mention if our 6’4 big guy Greg Childs comes back to even 70% we will be a force did in forget to mention we atill possess the future greatest running back of all times? Yea the NFC North has every reason to be afraid, very afraid our corners could be a step better but now with Rhodes and Cook 2 6′ guys easy we wil be able to contain many passing games Josh Robinson is going to be the best nickel corner in the league soon and Harrison Smith? It jus gets better and better… Alls we need to do now is sign either Urlacher or draft Teo and we will be an easy pick to win the NFC North… No matter what GB offense does they’re defense is still a liability, Rick Spielman has done an amazing job of putting together a great team if u dont like that then u must be a fan of a NFC North team thats not from Minnesota….. #BOOOM!! #MINDBLOWING!

Graded as a better prospect? By who? You?

Both were graded as top 5 talent and both slipped to the 20′s.

2011 lions fans: we are only a few people away from a dynasty!
    2011 packers fans: nope

2012-13Vikings fans: we just had a great offseason and picked up three first round draft picks that will be pro bowlers and we are going to win the Super Bowl and the packers are on the decline!

    2012-13 packers fans: nope.

    Do you see a trend?

  17. zayzillionz says: Apr 26, 2013 12:57 PM

I also dont believe we gave up too much for Cordarelle Patterson… Remember a couple year ago people thought ATL gave up too much for Julio Jones? Yea thats where im going with it!

All you Ponder haters are going to be feeling it come September!! Vikes recievers dropped a lot of balls last year, a lot.
We had a heck of a draft. Got a STUD 3-technique and a BIG/SOLID Corner. Now we got 2 corners that are 6’2. I think we’ll be just fine.
People that say this guy won’t help us stop Megatron and GB, well we beat GB once, and Detroit 2x, and we did it without Harvin. We’re going to be good and whoever thinks we are not, needs to re-group.

  23. wludford says: Apr 26, 2013 2:16 PM

Well, that could mean the entire Vikings starting defensive line consists of 1st round draft picks next year. I think Griffen will get the starting job though, alongside Allen, Williams and Floyd.

  24. vikings28 says: Apr 26, 2013 2:34 PM

At the end of the day, the Vikes have an offense that no team in the NFC North wants to see. We will POUND THAT ROCK DOWN YOUR THROAT!! All the defenses in the NFC North are built to defend the pass….we come with POWER!!!
    SKOL!!!

  25. taintedsaints2009 says: Apr 26, 2013 3:07 PM

who? and why? they already have 3 defensive ends. he better not take any playing time away from Griffen, who is the best pass rusher on that team. yes, better than Allen.

  26. axespray says: Apr 26, 2013 6:03 PM

Ha! we’re contenders after “A” season where we overachieved! we’re totally not like the 2011 fluke lions!

  27. tokyosandblaster says: Apr 26, 2013 9:28 PM

I haven’t seen the Vikings pick in a while. It’s almost like they got rid of all of their picks for one raw player in a skill position that relies on good QB play, which the Vikings don’t have.

    What’s going on?

No… Griffen wasn’t a first round pick. Allen wasn’t a first round pick. Robison wasn’t a first round pick. Just Williams and now Floyd. Other than that you were entirely correct.

Vikings took the best defensive tackle in the draft and the second best corner and receiver in the draft also yet people can honestly say we had a crap draft? Not to mention we filled three of the four biggest holes in our side with immediate starters. I wish we bundled some of next years picks and grabbed manti Teo this year as well. I hope we get Brian urlacher now to man the middle linebacker position and I think the Vikings will go 11-5 this season. Everyone bags ponder for not being a world beating qb but we don’t need him to be. As long as he can manage a game well and get the ball out on some passing downs we will be fine. It’s all about having the players to stretch the field and the threat of the passing game which will help our real strength and that’s Peterson and our running game. Our defense will be the best in our division and I would say top fifteen in the league. With the best running game and if we can get our passing game in the top 15-20 we will be a threat this year. It’s the future that looks bright.

  32. mss2177 says: Apr 30, 2013 1:55 AM

Lawrence Jackson just gives us a solid end to add to our rotation. I think griffin will start with Allen and along with Floyd and Williams that is going to be one hell of a front four.
