Former Raiders coach Randy Hanson found guilty of battery

The man who suffered a broken jaw during an altercation with former Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable as a member of the coaching staff in 2009 is now heading to jail for an incident of his own.

According to Cynthia Lambert of the San Luis Obispo Tribune, former Raiders assistant Randy Hanson was found guilty of felony battery and misdemeanor assault for hitting a man in the face with a beer bottle last August.

Hanson was working as an assistant coach at Cal Poly University at the time of the crime and faces up to four years in jail. Hanson’s attorney plans on trying to get the felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor at Hanson’s sentencing hearing on June 10.

Hanson was awoken by 52-year old James Kelsey in the back of a limo outside of Harry’s Night Club and Beach Bar in Pismo Beach, Calif. Upon being disturbed, Hanson cracked Kelsey with a bottle. Kelsey suffered a broken nose and a concussion. Hanson claimed it was in self-defense.

Hanson sued the Raiders and Cable for the incident that left him injured and eventually no longer employed by the team. Cable wasn’t charged for the altercation.

  1. This guy was, evidently, a very faithful employee for the Raiders until the abrupt end of his tenure when he took his broken jaw and left. Looks like he’s a part of the poison history this team is trying to move on from. Faithful or not, glad he’s gone and the front office is being inhabited with grown ups for a change.

  2. Oh, I get it…so what Mr. Crabtree is saying here is that if someone you were associated with at some point has some sort of misdeed that particular incident is automatically yours or associated to you even if you don’t have any involvement with them anymore. If that is the case then I am sure that many people on here, including Mr. Crabtree himself, should have some doozies linked them.

Who really cares about a nobody that worked in the personnel department AND that was also employed by the Vikings and the Rams…oh wait, we do not want to smear them though so let’s just mention the Raiders. Unbelievable…

  3. This guy was passed out in the back of a limo ? I guess Al overpaid for his lackeys as well . I really miss Tom Cable .

  4. Um yeah, he was just “sleeping” in the back of a limo in a parking lot. More like drunk and passed out.

  5. What is it with raiders always finding these punk coaches that look like they’re the most miserable people on earth… Wait, it’s the raiders, they turn their staff into miserable people.

  6. This doesn’t tarnish the Raiders. He hasn’t been with the team in quite some time. He does help to represent the people the organization is distancing itself from. Right, Rolando McLain?

  7. This guy is a little punk, He is the sole reason Tom Cable really got fired. If this innocent never happened or if Hanson just shut his mouth Cable might still be the Raiders head coach today

Still bitter about the Chiefs getting swept by the Raiders last season?

  9. The following post can be forwarded to every sports media outlet and be relevant. The blatant hating that exists in the MEDIA is almost laughable. It seems as if there is a whole new generation of “journalists” who resent the Silver and Black, for whatever reason. GOOD.
The Greatness of the Raiders inspires passion in every football fan, good or bad.
