Bengals to convert Auburn speedster to corner

Onterio McCalebb AP

The Bengals have signed one of the fastest players to come out of college this year, but they’re asking him to switch sides of the ball.

The team announced some undrafted rookie signings yesterday, but according to Geoff Hobson of the team’s official website, the team is also signing a few more, including Auburn RB Onterio McCalebb, who is being converted to cornerback.

McCalebb got everyone’s attention at the Combine when he ran his 40s in unofficial times of 4.27 and 4.21 seconds (though his “official” times were ratcheted down to a merely blazing 4.34).

That still makes the 5-foot-11, 173-pound McCalebb one of the fastest guys in the league, and worth the small risk that comes with an undrafted rookie deal. If they can channel that speed, he might at least be useful as a return man.

Once he puts on the Bunghole pajamas, he instantly becomes a loser.

Low risk high reward for sure. If anyone can convert the kid to CB, it’s Zimmer. And if it doesn’t pan out, oh well. He can be a returner

The Bengals are beginning to behave like a 21st century football team.

Somehow reminds me of watching Mike Brown suggest turning one of the DEs into a tight end on Hard Knocks because of his speed and injuries to their TEs…..

I guess they have to do what they have to do to get him to the game-day roster. But dude needs the ball in his hands to be an effective playmaker.

dude was a baller in college.let’s see if that translates to being a play maker on the other side of the ball.raiders are trying something similar with speedy back Taiwan Jones.who was actually a corner when arriving at college.should be an interesting transition

@ Joe – How can a guy from Toronto bash on a guy named Onterio like that?

I’m really excited for this season the Bengals have been doing nothing but improving the team the past 4 years and I think they’ve added some more KEY pieces this off season and we should be able to make a serious run in the playoffs this year

    Toronto is a joke

Come on Joe, with a 40 time like that, surely he is worth the number seven overall pick. That is, of course, provided that he’s a WR who can’t catch, run routes, or block.
