New Jags G.M. fills key front-office slots

David Caldwell AP

Earlier this week, the Jaguars parted ways with Director of Player Personnel Terry McDonough and Director of Pro Personnel Louis Clark.

The Jaguars have now completed that process, with some new hires by G.M. Dave Caldwell.  A source with knowledge of the situation has passed the details along to PFT.

Former Jags Director of College Personnel Andy Dengler will become the Assistant Director of Player Personnel.

Former Colts G.M. Chris Polian joins the team as Director of Pro Personnel, replacing Clark.  The job entails constantly monitoring potential acquisitions from players with NFL experience and/or currently on other NFL teams.  Polian worked for the Falcons in 2012 after spending 14 years with the Colts.

Kyle O’Brien will serve as Director of College Scouting.  He worked as a regional scout with the Chiefs in 2012, and spent 10 years before that with the Patriots.  He’ll now essentially be in charge of setting the table each year for the draft.

Paul Roell will serve as the Assistant Director of College Scouting.  He has 21 years of experience, including the last seven with the Vikings.

Mark Ellenz has been hired as the Eastern Regional Scout, after 13 years with the Colts.

A new Director of Player Personnel has not yet been named.  There’s a chance, we’re told, that role will be filled by Caldwell himself.

Smart move to let Polian monitor pro personnel and not college. I like the move. Having Caldwell as GM/Director of Player Personnel is fine by me, his judgement has been a breath of fresh air thus far.

Good moves for David and staff, except of course leaving Chris in charge of anything.
The other scouts will pick up Chrisissy’s faults.

Nothing like hiring a guy who is only in the business in the first place because of rampant nepotism.

Good that they found people to fill the slots. Before there were just slots.
