Ex-Jet Cliff Harris arrested for third time in nine days

Mychal Kendricks, Cliff Harris AP

Remember how we told you last week that cornerback Cliff Harris had been cut by the Jets after he was arrested? And then how we told you this week that Harris was arrested again after he went back home to Oregon?

Well, now he’s been arrested again.

That’s Harris’s third arrest in the last nine days.

According to FOX 12 in Oregon, the third arrest was for failure to appear in court in connection with the second arrest, which was for domestic harassment after he was seen shoving his girlfriend. The reason Harris missed his scheduled court appearance is that he was pulled over for speeding and passing in a no-passing zone on his way to court, and the officer who pulled him over discovered that he doesn’t have a driver’s license, so the officer wouldn’t let Harris drive the rest of the way to the courthouse. Harris did eventually get someone else to drive him to the courthouse, but by the time he got there he was so late that the judge had issued a bench warrant, so he was arrested on the spot.

Harris was an excellent cornerback and punt returner in college at Oregon, but he was kicked off the team for a series of legal problems. As the legal problems continue, it becomes increasingly unlikely that he’ll ever play in the NFL.

  10. digbysellers says: May 7, 2013 6:04 PM

As much as I hate to admit it, I can’t say I agree that he’ll never play in the NFL again. Leonard Little got to keep playing, Donte Stallworth got to keep playing, Adam Jones got to keep playing…a little bit of talent makes some GM’s forget an awful lot of things in the NFL.

  11. Gordon says: May 7, 2013 6:04 PM

You might have to rename the turd watch in his honor. This is an impressive feat!

  12. tjacks7 says: May 7, 2013 6:04 PM

    actually kind of impressive.

So I guess he should have his own arrest meter? Or just rename it in his honor to the Cliff Harris meter?

  18. bubbybrister/shovelpass says: May 7, 2013 6:13 PM

Is he really an Ex-Jet? Considering he has never had a single snap?

  26. roybiggins says: May 7, 2013 6:19 PM

Any chance you stop calling this clown an “ex-Jet”, especially since every photo you have shows him in an Eagles uni?

In fact, since he was signed to a futures contract by the Jets a couple of months ago, he never even got to wear a Jets uniform.

Looking forward to the next arrest of this ex-Eagle.

  27. inyofaceagain says: May 7, 2013 6:19 PM

oh he got arrested AT court. No bail either? Sucks.

Cliff Harris: Hang on a sec – I just gotta fix my hair. It’ll be OK, I’m a football player in the NFL, remember?

    Friend: Sure man, sure.

    *At the car*

Friend: Want to let me drive – you know you have no license.

CA: What did I just tell you, man?

    *In the car*

Friend: Aren’t you driving a little fast, and in the wrong lane?

    CA: MAN! Stop hasslin’ me…

Friend: OK Bro, sorry, but I-…

1980’s cartoon “Heathcliff” can be applied to Cliff:

cliff ,cliff , No one should .. terrify their neighborhood .

  38. racksie says: May 7, 2013 6:33 PM

“At that point….why even pull over?” That’s very funny. And probably a little bit true.

  39. jetfan4life45 says: May 7, 2013 6:33 PM

What do the Jets have to do with this? He was on the roster for a couple months in the off season. I know the Jet haters wished the Jets had more off the field issues but they don’t have many issues off the field at all. Like I’ve said before its the cool thing to do these days is to talk bad about the Jets. Worry about your team. Losers.

  42. thestrategyexpert says: May 7, 2013 6:37 PM

Timing is everything in a game of inches. And the game of life is one of those such games. It’s fortunate that nobody was killed while he was speeding and executing a potentially dangerous maneuver. Leave the danger creation for when you are on a football field and it’s legal plus you get paid millions to do it.

  43. dalcow4 says: May 7, 2013 6:38 PM

At least the Cowboys’ Cliff Harris was awesome.

    More of the Bellotti/Kelly culture!
Chip Kelly believes in his boys.
He paid good money to an agent for this guy while at Oregon.

Eagles will pick him up in a few weeks. Eagles fans love it.

  46. patfic15 says: May 7, 2013 6:44 PM

Impressive! Keep up the good work, Cliff. Domestic abuse cases are almost cliché in NFL.

  47. commonsensedude says: May 7, 2013 6:48 PM

Everybody is focusing too much on the negative aspects of getting arrested three times in a week. At least this young man is showing a lot of consistency.

  55. thesteelers says: May 7, 2013 7:11 PM

  68. ridingwithnohandlebars says: May 7, 2013 8:24 PM

He should get his own days without arrest counter.

  69. csilojohnson says: May 7, 2013 8:36 PM

Seems.like it all came full circle for Harris.
He will play on an NFL team.
In a couple months, after he takes a sabbatical from his crime spree. PFT will be saying some team got a great bargain.
Give this dbag a couple hundred thousand. We can all count on the cycle starting again.
Do these guys even play ball anymore? It seems like the NFL has become all about fantasy and police blotters. Lets not forget the games the NFLPA and NFL front office have been playing. How to keep HGH in the game. All while making us think they are fighting to rid the game of it. Oh and covering up the present usage. All just a charade.
My bet is he goes to Pats or Cowboys. Dallas already has a daycare set up. Good fit.

  70. EJ says: May 7, 2013 8:38 PM

Who drives to their court appearance when you have no license, and because you have no license, wouldn’t you try to drive the speed limit? You go to the one place where there is sure to be police, not so bright. Have someone drive you, Its a no brainer!

    Evidently, he’s a no-brainer, too.
    ———————————–
BTW, I agree that calling him an “ex-Jet” is a little unfair. He never played for them, he played for the Iggles.

Now that Pollard the Punk is gone, we’ll sign him right up…a perfect fit for the Flaccos.
