Packers bring back throwbacks, to Aaron Rodgers’ delight

As throwback uniforms go, the Packers are among the least flattering.

Via Weston Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, they’re coming back for 2013, after a one-year hiatus. Via Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com, quarterback Aaron Rodgers likes that very much.

“The thing I’m most excited about . . . is the throwback uniforms,” Rodgers told Wilde. “I was a little skeptical when we saw them, before on paper this year, but I love the look, and I love the pants.

“The pants are the most comfortable pants I’ve ever worn. You ask Donald [Driver]. It had something to do with that touchdown [against San Francisco in 2010, a 61-yard catch-and-run]. The greatest play in his career, one of the greatest I’ve ever been a part of. The pants definitely had something to do with it. I mean, I don’t know what the other material is. They’re so comfortable, definitely a lot freer than the yellow ones we wear.”

It’s hard not to wonder whether the photobombing Rodgers is being sarcastic. Assuming he isn’t, why don’t the Packers make the yellow pants out of the same material they use for the tan pants that go with the blue shirts with the blue numbers trapped in a yellow circle under a helmet that is supposed to be brown but looks like a plum with a facemask attached to it?

Then again, Nike’s arrival as the uniform supplier could make the throwback pants have a very different feel in 2013.

Rodgers and the rest of the Packers will find out on October 20, when the Packers break out the throwbacks for a game against the Browns.
