PFT Live: Chris Kluwe, Anthony Becht

Chris Kluwe AP

It’s not every day when the release of a punter is one of the biggest stories in the NFL, but Chris Kluwe hasn’t been much like other punters during his career.

He’s been a frequent commentator on football and social issues, with his views on Ray Guy being out of the Hall of Fame and gay marriage drawing a lot of attention over the last year. Kluwe lost his job with the Vikings on Monday, ending an eight-year run in Minnesota and leaving some to wonder if his outspoken nature helped contribute to his release.

Kluwe will join Mike Florio on Tuesday’s PFT Live to discuss his feelings on that question. We’ll also find out whether he’s heard from any other teams since getting the axe from the Vikings during the conversation.

Anthony Becht will also join Florio to talk about the other big stories in the league right now as the offseason rolls along slowly and steadily toward a time when we can watch football instead of just talking about it.

You can watch it all live at noon ET.

An aging, mediocre punter ISN’T big news, unless the media deems it so.

Anyone remember when the media used to REPORT news rather than MAKE it?

We don’t need to hear any more from Kluwe.

Remember all the press there was when Longwell got canned for Walsh last year for the Vikings?

    Me neither.

typically it isn’t news when 30+ year-old middle -of-the-pack punters and/or 36-year-old special-teams-ONLY players (ie Ayanbadejo) get cut…type of thing happens every season to little fanfare…

but BECAUSE of their social activism, it now merits press coverage and the integrity of their clubs gets called into question?
OK, I see how that works….

Are these the same Vikings fan’s that bashed the Packers faithful for being “turning” on Favre when he waffled and whined his way out of town.

Yet Kluwe is trying to help in his community. You guys still choose to bash him over it on his way out?

No one is bashing Kluwe for his opinions. He sucks and we got someone better. A lot different than a HOF QB. A mediocre punter? Child please.

Are you going to interview Tebow too? Or do you only interview unemployed players whose politics you agree with? Face it. As much as you want it to be a story, no one cares about Kluwe.

I just find it ironic is all, yes Favre was great in GB and some other places as well. My knock on him is he was extremely selfish. Not wanting training camp, Howards SB MVP, even that off the field stuff.

I think Kluwe still has good leg power, and wouldn’t have been able to grind out some of those games that, as well as they did last season. Like edging out the Jags in the first week.
