49ers, Levi’s expected to announce stadium naming rights deal

The 49ers and Levi’s are holding a press conference to make a “major announcement” on Wednesday and it isn’t to announce that Jim Harbaugh will be this decade’s answer to Brooke Shields.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that the press conference will be an announcement of a naming rights deal with Levi Strauss & Co. at the team’s new stadium in Santa Clara. The deal will help pay for the stadium, which is set to open next year.

The financial terms of the deal to name the Niners’ home aren’t known nor is the proposed name for the new stadium. With Miami’s chances of hosting Super Bowl L dimmed by the state legislature coming down against a referendum on a deal to renovate Sun Life Stadium, there’s a good chance that we’ll be looking live at the Field of Jeans in February 2016.

That’s what we’ve got to offer for a name. We’re open to other suggestions in the comments to fill the time until the press conference.

Pretty fitting (no pun intended) seeing that Levi Strauss got his start in the Gold Rush.

Don’t expect me to believe for one second that that pun was not intended. Not only was that pun intended, but it was obligated!

I finally started to become somewhat at peace with them leaving SF for Santa Clara then they did this, who cares if you have a nice stadium when its in the middle of no where and has a crap name……and I used to think “3 com” and “Monster” park were bad stadium names

I would have rather have gotten Apple to buy the rights and call it the istadium. An ipad could have been the jumbo tron, and Siri could have been the PA announcer.

I guess this means Brett Favre can’t come back to play for the 49ers, since he endorses Wranglers.

Levi Stadium is going to be pretty stupid! With that said the only thing that matter’s is the got the money. Nobody is going to care about the stadium name once we get that 6th trophy!

  25. acmepackers says: May 8, 2013 2:02 PM

    _______

Yes, but they’ll scratch off the 32 and put in 31.

  28. woodsidegil says: May 8, 2013 2:21 PM

Since there will be groupies trying to snare the players, along with the connection to the gold rush, how about Gold Diggers Park?

  29. granadafan says: May 8, 2013 2:26 PM

Levi Stadium is no worse than other stadium names like Petco or Lucas Oil, etc.

The 49ers and Santa Clara built their stadium the right way: NO PUBLIC MONEY.

    @Granadafan

Actually Fat Jamie Matthews, the mayor of Santa Clara fleeced the voters of his town for $300 million. Say what you want about the inept S.F Board of Supervisors they held out on public funds from the Yorks thinking they would cave in, but the Yorks called their bluff and headed south for public money. Its about the only silver lining to them leaving the City.

    Go Niners!

  38. sashe78 says: May 8, 2013 7:27 PM

The 49’ers new stadium in Santa Clara is 45 miles away from SF? Wow. That’s ridiculous. How far away can you move a team and still use the city’s name? As for the name, it beats the new deal the University of Illinois made with State Farm Insurance. No longer Assembly Hall (yes, like Indiana’s) but is to be named State Farm Arena. Sounds like a penal farm to me…?
