Chargers sign Manti Te’o, three other draft picks

Manti Te'o AP

The Chargers, as is increasingly becoming common practice around the league, have moved quickly to start getting their draft picks under contract, announcing Thursday they had reached deals with four rookies, including linebacker Manti Te’o.

While Te’o endured a drama-filled lead-up to the draft and went unselected in Round One, he has landed with a team that has big plans for him. The 6-1, 241-pound Te’o has a strong chance at starting at inside linebacker for the Chargers, who moved up in the second round to take the former Notre Dame star.

In addition to signing Te’o, the Chargers said they finalized deals with California wide receiver Keenan Allen (Round Three), Florida International outside linebacker Tourek Williams (Round Six) and Southern Utah quarterback Brad Sorensen (Round Seven).

This was the best place for Te’o. There is virtually no-where I would rather play geographically speaking above San Diego.

He will be compared to “the great” Junior, but perhaps that will be good for him too.

    Getting it done

I would like to see authorized photographic evidence of this so called “Contract” Manti Te’o claims to have.

Is manti sure he signed a contract? It shouldn’t have been an electronic signature online it should be a hard copy.

Te’o is in a great situation for a rookie. He’s on a team that can only get better, and which has a new HC. The fans are going to be looking more at the Coach, and expecting results from him, and the QB. This’ll give Te’o more time to mature in the NFL, and bring his game up to speed. Let’s hope that he does.

I just hope for his sake he can move on and just do what he loves to do.

  12. schmitty2 says: May 9, 2013 8:59 PM

I wonder if they will sign Lennay to a Udfa contract.

  13. packerbackernj says: May 9, 2013 9:06 PM

Manti and Lennay first date was suppose to be under one of those 5 yard rainbows Rivers throws. TUIOSASOPOOOOOOOOO!

  14. kgun80 says: May 9, 2013 9:10 PM

The rookie wage scale may be the biggest thing Roger has done and may end up being his legacy..no more mega contracts for unproven players. A team can actually draft a guy and develop him without worrying about wasting a ton of cap space

Come on guys, enough picking on Te’o . We have all made mistakes and I am sure half of y’all don’t want the world to know about it. We all screw up and the only difference between us and him, is that he has reached success that most of us dream of achieving. Te’o good luck to you, and may you find success in the NFL as a Stud linebacker for the Chargers for years to become.

Does anyone else miss the days when draft pics used to hold out as long as possible to get more money that they haven’t earned? Missing valuable mini camps and OTA’s. Ostracizing themselves from the other players and starting off on the wrong foot with the coaching staff. Those were the days.

  17. peytonsneckl8 says: May 9, 2013 9:34 PM

San Diego has a team? HTTR!!!

  18. National Fanatic says: May 9, 2013 9:38 PM

Charger, San Diegian (now), Hawaiian/Samoan, Morman, Eagle Scout, Golden-Domer… Call him what you want, but he’s gonna be welcomed in SD.

  19. pathsovglory says: May 9, 2013 9:44 PM

Keenan Allen in the 3rd round.

I dont care if he has/had knee problems, that’s damn good value right there.

T’eo went where he should’ve gone.

  20. boyshole25 says: May 9, 2013 9:45 PM

Good for teo he’s close to home and will do well

  21. brassknuckles47 says: May 9, 2013 9:47 PM

Te’o can get run over twice as much in San Diego as he did in the AL game.

  22. staugjag says: May 9, 2013 9:54 PM

Now he can afford 10 girlfriends and be the biggest imaginary pimp on the west coast

  23. buffalobills4ever says: May 9, 2013 9:57 PM

I hate how everyone is comparing him to Junior Seau. That guy was an animal. Just ruthless and a totally different player all together. I like some aspects of Manti’s game, but he plays much more passive than Junior did.

  24. lanzurrah says: May 9, 2013 9:59 PM

You guys can do better. I clicked on comments expecting jokes. These ones completely suck.

  25. bleedtwincitiessports says: May 9, 2013 10:01 PM

The Te’o jokes are becoming old and annoying! People think their original with their “girlfriend” post…

  26. proudliberal85392 says: May 9, 2013 10:09 PM

The mind boggles at the possibilities for snark. Instead, I’ll just wish him good luck.

  27. letafan4ever says: May 9, 2013 11:18 PM

Congrats to all four!! Happy for the Chargers.
Should be a good Mini Camp with 33 players.

So tired of all the Snark!!

  28. raiderapologist says: May 9, 2013 11:55 PM

All three Charger fans complaining about the snark concerning Te’o, with no thought about the heat he’s going to take in the locker room.

  29. bandoy767 says: May 9, 2013 11:59 PM

I’m really hoping this guy has a good career and plays lights out that ppl dont even talk about the whole fake gf thing. Just sucks, for every missed tackle, missed assignment it’s going to be called getting teo’d.

If anyone doesn’t think Keenan Allen is the best WR in the whole draft needs to youtube his highlights. Chargers STOLE him! If they get a LT they’ll have a top-3 offense this year.

  31. vaughnjoe says: May 10, 2013 12:39 AM

OK Nice start to the “new era” in San Diego! Maybe just maybe Rivers will have a better year. Couldnt get much worse. We better draft a new QB next year.

  32. mrgroovesd says: May 10, 2013 2:41 AM

Time for him to prove he is as good as some say he was before the whole drama. I hope he does good.

  33. hedleykow says: May 10, 2013 4:13 AM

No problem … Te’o will be poi when the Chiefs meet up with him.

Just typing the word “poi” makes me hungry.

  34. spideysdog says: May 10, 2013 5:42 AM

chargers mgmt. will feel like they got carriages in about two years. mark my words.

  35. souldogdave says: May 10, 2013 7:22 AM

let’s see if he can stop the running backs in the AFC West.

  36. george1859 says: May 10, 2013 9:14 AM

The T’eo to Seau comparisons remind me of the word Sanchise…
Jr was greatness, T’eo is a joke.

  37. jbaxt says: May 10, 2013 9:33 AM

If he thought Lacy was good, wait until he sees Jamaal Charles. It will bring back dreams of his girlfriend, he’ll promise he saw him but just never made any contact.

  38. wvphil7 says: May 10, 2013 12:51 PM
