Saints sign first-round pick Kenny Vaccaro

Kenny Vaccaro AP

Two weeks after drafting Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro in the first round, the Saints have him under contract.

The Saints announced the signing of Vaccaro and three other draft picks on Thursday evening, with Arkansas-Pine Bluff offensive tackle Terron Armstead, Oklahoma wide receiver Kenny Stills and Tarleton State defensive end Rufus Johnson the others to reach deals with New Orleans.

Vaccaro is the first first-round pick to reach a contract with his new NFL team.

The No. 15 overall pick, Vaccaro (6-0, 214) was the first safety chosen in Round One. The Saints allowed 292.6 passing yards per game a season ago, second-worst in the league. Vaccaro and veteran cornerback Keenan Lewis were the Saints’ primary offseason additions to their secondary.

The Saints selected Armstead in the third round, with Stills a fifth-round pick and Johnson a sixth-round selection.

Nose tackle John Jenkins, a third-round pick from Georgia, is the lone unsigned Saints draftee in the Class of 2013.

The best benefit to the rookie wage scale is that guys are getting signed faster and into camp on time. The game is far better for it.

Giants fans still lovin it. I told you NY fans would still bring up this topic just because we know it irks Washington and Dallas fans and brings a smile to our faces.

Saints should get back on track defensively with Vaccaro and Lewis. Jenkins is good as well. Roman Harper is the weak link in my opinion.

Thanks for everything Roman Harper, you will be missed.

    Sincerely, 49ers Fan!! ;)

While I consider this very unlikely, the thought of how chapped The Great Roger Goodell Himself Live And In Person would be if the Saints (or Redskins) won it all fills me with cheer.

Big deal. There is a structure in place so it’s a no brainer that players will be signed quickly.

This shows that Sean Payton and the Saints are indeed on a mission. From here on out, they’ll be at full throttle. Things are lining up for an epic repeat of their 2009 season.

The Saints D was so so awful last year and will be nothing but garbage this year. Welcome to Detroit Aints!!!!

@jagsfanugh: Why are you even reading (much less commenting on) a story that isn’t a big deal about a team you don’t follow? You and the other fourteen Jags fans must have something better to do.

I love the hate from Tampa fans you spent a quarter of a billion dollars the last two years on free agents and will still be battling Carolina for last place in the NFC south

Yes! I had a felling they’d be able to get him!

The Saints tried to hurt the 49ers in that playoff game for $$$. They lost instead. Brees denied knowledge, needed explanation. What a bunch of busters.

    =====================
There is absolutely zero evidence to back that claim but plenty of evidence that the Giants tried and succeeded in hurting the 49er’s punt returner in the 2011 playoffs specifically because he had a ‘recent concussion’ and the 49ers LOST just like last year… HA HA!!!

That last collective bargaining agreement is to thank for stories like this. Players are getting into camp quicker, teams are mitigating financial risk, and fans are not as annoyed dealing with drawn out negotiations. This particular item in the last CBA is a big WIN for everyone.

A jaguars fan saying the saints didn’t do enough an will still be garbage is like a homeless person saying warren buffet isn’t working hard enough and will always be poor.

Can someone please tell me why Saints fans are so stupid? I seriously think Raiders and Packers fans have more intelligence.
