Seahawks DT Greg Scruggs has ACL surgery on right knee

The Seattle Seahawks took a blow to their depth along the defensive line with the announcement by the team Thursday evening that defensive tackle Greg Scruggs had underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.

Scruggs suffered the injury prior to the NFL Draft but didn’t have surgery to repair the injury until Thursday. The surgery was performed by team physician Ed Khalfayan at the Seattle Surgery Center.

The timing of the injury makes it very unlikely Scruggs will be able to play for the Seahawks this season. A seventh round pick a year ago by the Seahawks, Scruggs carved out a role as a versatile option along the defensive line. Scruggs could play either inside or outside and recorded five tackles and two sacks in 11 games played for Seattle last year.

The injury to Scruggs makes the selections of defensive tackles Jordan Hill and Jesse Williams more vital to the Seahawks depth along the defensive line. Both Hill and Williams may find more playing time available with Scruggs out for the foreseeable future.
