The Cowboys waited longer than most teams to sign their draft picks last season, but they’ve decided to try something different this time around.

The team announced Friday that linebacker DeVonte Holloman has signed his contract with the team. Holloman was selected in the sixth round with the 185th overall selection.

With Sean Lee, Bruce Carter and Justin Durant all on hand, the only linebacking jobs available right now in Dallas are backup ones. Holloman played both safety and linebacker during his time at South Carolina, which should leave him with coverage skills that will come in handy in his quest to earn one of those roles.

The Cowboys also announced this year’s crop of undrafted free agent signings with rookie minicamp getting underway on Friday. They are: Clemson punter Spencer Benton; Akron quarterback Dalton Williams; Eastern Washington wide receiver Greg Herd; Cal-Lutheran wide receiver Eric Rogers; Missouri running back Kendial Lawrence; Clemson cornerback Xavier Brewer; Saginaw Valley State safety Jeff Heath; Wisconsin cornerback Dustin Harris; South Carolina State safety Jakar Hamilton; West Alabama linebacker Deon Lacey; Mississippi State linebacker Cameron Lawrence; SMU linebacker Taylor Reed and Virginia tight end Paul Freedman.
