The Giants have signed fifth-round pick Cooper Taylor, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reported Friday.

Taylor (6-4, 228) received All-American honors from various publications in 2012, including the Associated Press, after notching 78 tackles and four tackles for Richmond.

Taylor began his collegiate career at Georgia Tech before transferring. In 2009, his sophomore season with Georgia Tech, Taylor was found to have Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a condition that can lead to an irregular heartbeat. According to the Macon Telegraph and other media outlets, Taylor had surgery to address the condition.

After the draft, Giants GM Jerry Reese said that Taylor’s heart condition “was (nothing) significant for our trainers and doctors right now. They cleared him and they don’t really have any real concerns.”

According to Wilson, the contract is valued at $2.34 million. It is a four-year deal.

Great potential to be that “new middle linebacker” – the small LB/big SS who can play the run in the box as the 7th man instead of the 8th, but can still cover backs and TEs over the middle. Combined with Rolle and Brown, the Giants look to have a solid 3-safety look going forward.

After watching film on him, I was amazed at how fast he closes on the ball carrier. So Mr. Mendenhallfumblemachine, save your appetite, you’ll be eating your foolish words. IN REESE WE TRUST!!!

Another NFC East player who will get run over and run around by RG3, Pierre Garcon and Alfred Morris. HTTR.

And that is how you solve the modern TE problem. Reese is a beast.
