Call them the new Seattle Seven.
On second thought, that may be a bit of a stretch. Group nickname or not, the Seahawks announced that they have signed seven members of their 2013 draft class to their rookie contracts.
The team has reached agreement with third-round defensive tackle Jordan Hill (pictured), fourth-round wide receiver Chris Harper, fifth-round defensive tackle Jesse Williams, fifth-round tight end Luke Willson, seventh-round guard Ryan Seymour, seventh-round linebacker Ty Powell and seventh-round guard Jared Smith.
Hill and Williams will fight for time in a crowded defensive line rotation while the team has said that they see Harper playing the same “X” receiver role currently occupied by Golden Tate, who is entering the final year of his contract. Smith is moving to the offensive line after playing defensive tackle at New Hampshire and he’ll join Willson, Seymour and Powell in battles for spots at the back end of the roster this summer.
The seven signings still leave the Seahawks with four more picks to get under contract. Given how few spots there are up for grabs on the Seattle roster this year, some of those 11 will likely be pursuing their NFL dreams with other teams in a few months.
