There was a time when it looked like Keenan Allen would be one of the first two or three wide receivers off the board in the draft, but he wound up having to wait until the third round to land with the Chargers.

Explaining the drop isn’t all that hard. Allen missed the final three games of his senior year at Cal with a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee, though, and then ran slower than expected at his pro day workout. Those are things that don’t bode well for anyone’s draft status, especially when there were also questions about an ankle injury that led to a medical re-check after the combine.

Disappointing as that drop may have been, it’s over and Allen’s chances at a pro career now depend on what he does on the field. His chances of impressing are helped greatly by the fact that his knee is cooperating.

“It’s just getting back into the flow, making sure everything’s comfortable and my range of motion and everything is good,” said Allen, via Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune. “That’s basically what I’m looking at right now, and everything today felt great. ... No setbacks and no pain.”

Allen did all the drills at minicamp and should be ready to go full speed for the rest of the offseason and training camp. ;
