Cardinals sign rookie LB Kevin Minter

Rookie linebacker Kevin Minter has signed a four-year deal with the Cardinals, the team said Monday.

The Cardinals selected Minter (6-0, 246) in Round Two (No. 45 overall). The pick first belonged to the Chargers, who traded up into Arizona’s spot (No. 38) to select Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o.

As a junior in 2012, Minter notched 130 tackles and earned team MVP honors for LSU. The 22-year-old Minter is expected to compete for playing time at inside linebacker.

Daryl Washington, the Cardinals’ top inside linebacker, will miss the first four games of the season on an NFL suspension, and he was arrested┬áin May in on assault charges.

This young man has a great opportunity…
    – He got drafted by a young, rebuilding team with a solid defense
    – Daryl Washington is a great example of what not to do
    – Dansby has been brought back on a 1 yr deal to teach him how to be a professional

    Make a really nice fullback!
No really though, one of the players my limited knowledge knew of!!
Gonna be watching for this guy twice a season!

I can’t believe the Cards actually outdealed another team – trading a pick so the Chargers could get overrated headcase Te’o, and picking Minter for themselves! Could the tide be turning at last for the Cards?

It will be interesting to see how Sio Moore compares to both Te’o and Minter as many thought he would go late 1st or 2nd rd.

Should’ve picked Arthur Brown. Ozzie Newsome strikes again.

Minter, Te’o, Ogletree, Brown, Bostic and Moore. Let’s see who has the better career. This was a deep MLB/ILB class.

The Cardinals are all about LSU lately. Probably a good idea on their part.

I’m sure this kid will be a decent player but I’m not crazy about drafting a strictly ILB (they are a 3-4 defense) so high. You can get them later in the draft, especially when you need playmakers. Same thing with drafting an OG with the 7th pick of the draft. I know Cooper can be special but he’s a guard, you can get good ones later. Should have gone DL or receiver or traded down.

I am as the Cardinals are just fine in taking Minter and gaining a extra pick in the process. LSU produces great NFL caliber agent plain and simple. Has AZ missed on a LSU player not yet and Minter will be great next to Washington next year and this year with Dansby it’s a nice combo.

A great pick for the Az Cardinals. You got a diamond of a player and person.
