Panthers cut five, including Chia-chugger Keiser

Thomas Keiser AP

If Thomas Keiser is going to grow his NFL career, he’s going to have to transplant himself somewhere else.

The former Stanford pass-rusher was among five players cut Monday, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer.

In 2011, Keiser was second on the Panthers with 4.0 sacks. Of course, that said as much about the 2011 Panthers as Keiser himself. Last year, he was limited by injuries and played in just four games. That means the most interesting thing about him in 2012 was walking around training camp drinking a jug of water full of Chia seeds.

Keiser’s actually a decent effort player who’d probably fit better in a 3-4 defense as an outside linebacker.

The Panthers also released 2011 sixth-round pick Zack Williams, along with undrafted rookies Damario Jeffery, Taylor Cook and Trey Diller.

Aww we cut Keiser? I really thought he would breakout last year after coming out of nowwhere in 2011. Too bad the injuries derailed his production.

That’s the business world of the NFL though.

He seemed like he had potential, but after drinking the chia seeds and growing out a giant green afro, maybe Jerry Richardson felt he’d be a distraction. Panthers will likely sign another RB instead.

I actually really liked Keiser. He was a pretty good pass rusher and could be used as a hybrid linebacker/defensive end. I think that there are some players on the roster that should have been cut ahead of him.

    Keiser deserves a chance somewhere
