Ravens TE Dennis Pitta signs RFA tender

Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta has signed his one-year contract offer, the team said Monday.

Pitta was tendered at the second-round level in restricted free agency.

Pitta, 27, set career-highs in catches (61), yards (669) and touchdowns (seven) in the 2012 regular season. Pitta had 94 passes thrown his way in the regular season; only the now-departed Anquan Boldin (112) and Torrey Smith (110) received more opportunities in the passing game.

Pitta also played a key role in the Ravens’ postseason success, hauling 14 passes for 163 yards and three TDs, including a touchdown in Baltimore’s Super Bowl XLVII victory.

The second-round RFA tender is worth $2.023 million, NFL Network’s Albert Breer reported in January.

I really love me some Pitta, he was one of 3 dudes to go along with Joe ugly Fu a few years ago.

You knew he would sign soon. He’ll be a Raven for most of his career. He’s the 100th best player in the league.

Only a one-year contract for such an alleged great player. Interesting strategy, or maybe they’re just broke from the QB fleecing.

    A poor man’s Heath Miller.

Dude, don’t embarass your fanbase with bitter blindness, or mere stupidity… really not sure which it is, but if you knew anything about the game and how mgmt works, they gave Pitta a tender (kinda like you guys did with AB right?) and have been working on a long term deal all along. Because they didn’t get anything solidified yet, Pitta signed his tender to ensure he’d be on the field for the time being while they continue to negotiate. And that “Joe robbed the Ravens” BS is so overplayed. At least the Ravens know how to manage salaries without having to restruture every 5-8 contracts every year just to stay afloat at 8-8. BOOM.

Steeler fans can’t help themselves. If they keep saying Raven players are no good, maybe, they’ll start believing themselves. It makes for a good offseason, when you go 8-8. Let’s let Pitta & Miller play out their careers. Then we’ll see.

i was going to reply but rockthered and jacktheraven…well said my friends. go ravens!

Steeler fans love to tell us how this Ravens player sucks or that Ravens player sucks. Then, when the Ravens lose those players in the off season, they turn around and tell us that the Ravens will suck because they lost players that suck??

They’re too stupid to ever realize they do that.

A poor man’s Heath Miller? Hmm. Pitta caught a touchdown pass in the AFC Wildcard game. Miller sat on the couch. Pitta caught a touchdown pass in the AFC championship game. Miller sat on the couch. Pitta caught a touchdown pass in SB XLVII. Miller sat on the couch. Personally, I’ll take a TE catching touchdown passes over one who sits on his rump munching Doritos.

Should be interesting to see how they use him this year. I could see him seeing time as the slot receiver. Already runs a lot of those routes anyway.

He’ll be garbage in that system. Flacco got hot in the playoffs, but no way that carries over to next year. You guys will be 3rd in the North this year

Glad this got done. Now lets get him locked in long term. His value is on the rise and will play a big part in the offense again.
