APThe suspected news came in as bad as the Chargers feared, as the team has confirmed that last year’s first-round pick suffered a torn ACL in his left knee.
That’s a huge blow for a team that now has a need for some more pass-rush help, at a time of year when not much is available.
Unless new Chargers GM Tom Telesco wants to reach back to his Indianapolis roots for Dwight Freeney, or make a run at former Falcons defensive end John Abraham (who is less well-suited to play in a 3-4 defense, such that Freeney was), there’s not a lot of useful parts on the market at the moment.
It would help if 2009 first-rounder Larry English could be counted on, but his 8.5 sacks in four seasons effectively shows why they drafted Ingram last year.
Ouch.. Larry English just like Robert Ayers in Denver useless picks.
Huge blow to the San Diego defense; they now have no pass rush whatsoever. Here’s to Ingram having a speedy recovery.
The thought of English having to play scares me. Wonder what his cap hit would be if we cut English and went after Freeney, Abraham or Thomas.
Man, really sucks. Any news on how he tore it? I guess just planted his foot awkwardly.
This will be river’s last year with the chargers.
Charger fans should be happy they’ll get the first overall pick in the next draft.
I say this because,
Injured running back
Qb is past his prime
Worst oline in nfl
No receivers
Rebuild is coming
Somewhere Freeny is smiling. He’s really not a good 3-4 OLB but SD is not in a position to be picky.
Yup, he’s a bust.
Very sorry to hear this, terrible news for the young man, regardless of what team he is on.
Raids fan, but feel for Chargers here.
The Chargers will never win a damn thing.
*Face Palm*
I mean, come on, as a realistic Charger fan, I didn’t expect a whole heck of a lot this year, but still expected them to be decent. No pass rush now either? Dang, man. McCoy will definitely be tested.
Sad to say but SD missed their window of opportunity. They should blow up the team and trade Rivers and start anew.
Wow!!! Cannot believe this. It couldn’t have happen to a worse person. So sad. Melvin get better sir. Damn. Please pick up freeney that would be a great pick up, he has some left in the tank no doubt
@seatown ballers. Seriously just keep your comments for Seattle articles. Rivers is not past his prime I’m sure he will prove that this year.
injuries suck ..we didit need this on this team right now,but next man up( or should i say next man who isnt on the roster yet)..not holding my breath on english! telasco get off your arse and sign starks for LT .. wonder whos agent is on the phone with the chargers now? abraham, freeney, urlacher even though he isnt a de/lb.. abraham to me would be best casehe is the msot athletic of the list above currently at DE/LB…
Sucks. Wouldn’t wish this on any team except for the Giants
The good news is that this will not affect the Chargers perennial status as pre-season Super Bowl favorites.
That’s a shame, huge loss for them

Nah, Probably not even last place in their division with the Raiders stinking up the place. And that’s assuming KC bounces back too.
If you put your ear to the ground in San Diego some say you can hear faintly, the words “Teddy Bridgewater.”
Well at least we have Larry English! Oh wait…

At Least Robert Ayers will have a good year this year, and Von Miller trumps English and Ingram.
Denver Wins
Hate to see this. Feel your pain, but it is your turn charger nation!!
Not a Charger fan but that just sucks. Especially not in a game but in OTA. Good luck to him in rehab.
@seatownballers
Worse OL than AZ?
Reid Hooper cries himself to sleep tonight.
Play Larry English, give him a chance, that’s what I would do in this situation.
Sad but oh well. HTTR
What, did he attend the Ryan Matthews school of conditioning and nutrition? Why are all the good players (Matthews did show some brillance on occasion he wasn’t hurt). This sucks for the Chargers as we won’t see Melvin back for at least a year. Urlacher is still on the market. He needs a job for at least a season. Hello Freeney? Bueller?
Poor kid. I hope he comes back better than ever.
Barns, GONE
Phillips, GONE
Ingram, GONE
…injuries happen, but so does free agency. Telesco probably has already suspected all injuries and “what-if” scenarios, but this is a huge blow, and Ingram was the reason why Barns and Phillips were not resigned.
At least they still have Shaun Phillips. Oops my bad. He left to join a real team. OrangeCrush.
Larry English do you hear that knock? Time to put or your big boy slacks.
If you are a San Diego fan, then AJ Smith is public enemy #1. How could he leave this team in such shambles. No O-line, no WRs, no D-line. UGH!!!
Oh I forgot. An RB who is always injured, and let Sproiles and Tomlinson go. Now I’m done with my rant.
Here’s wishing Ingram a speedy recovery and that he’ll be able to show he was just as promising as Liuget. Chargers fans can at least take solace in the fact that the Lord of No Rings is gone.
Jets fan here but wish him a speedy recovery
My heart bleeds for you Chargers fans
