In an effort to procure partial public funding for upgrades to Sun Life Stadium, the Dolphins and owner Stephen Ross plunked down $10 million over a six-week period, according to Patricia Mazzei of the Miami Herald.
The total number could be higher; the reported amount comes only from reported expenditures associated with the effort to finagle a public vote.
The Dolphins made a non-refundable $4.8 million payment to Miami-Dade County to cover the costs of an election that would have happened on May 14. The election was blocked by the failure of Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford to act on a bill that would have authorized the election.
