The Eagles released second-year wide receiver Marvin McNutt on Tuesday, the club said.

The announcement of McNutt’s departure came as the club confirmed the addition of running back Felix Jones, news of which emerged earlier in the day. Jones signed a one-year contract, the team said.

The 23-year-old McNutt was a sixth-round pick of Philadelphia in 2012. He spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad but was added to the active roster on November 30. McNutt (6-2, 216) appeared in four games for the Eagles.

Jones, who had a five-season stint with Dallas, is participating in the Eagles’ Tuesday OTAs, the club said.

There will be hundreds of players released this off-season. I’d love to know how you guys decide which ones to write articles about, since this guy was a practice quad player in 2012.

What happened to “red zone redeemer”

What a name for a (now former) Philly athlete. classic! ha!

But I thought last year was Howie Roseman’s infallible draft according to Lurie? McNutt was supposed to be the key to their red zone offense, right?

His name sounds like something out of “Back to the Future”.

he was an incredibly productive player at Iowa but seemed too slow to get open in the NFL.

    why is this news worthy?

Some times you feel like a McNutt,
    Some times you don’t!

It’s the number 83. Greg Lewis had the number before McNutt and he sucked too.

Greg Lewis did NOT suck. He was an undrafted player who overachieved & stuck around for years and had a decent career. He also caught that incredible last rocket from Farve that went through 3 defenders to beat the 49ers when he was a Viking (youtube it, it’s an amazing catch).

Why is the headline not “Eagles sign RB Felix Jones.” ???

Is the subtraction of a 6th round guy who rarely played more important than the addition of a guy who, when healthy, is pretty dominant?

Great signing IMO as he doesn’t need to be the primary ball carrier.

Looks like Benn might have a career after all.

    ______
Because McNutt was slated to be a second round pick in last year’s draft, but when the WR market went haywire, he fell to the sixth, and a lot of analysts were calling him one of the draft’s biggest steals.

The only thing Greg Lewis had that this guy didn’t was those big beaver teeth.

Jones won’t hurt us at all.
