Max Starks visiting Cardinals today

AP

As one of the few available offensive tackles who has the experience and ability to play on the left, Max Starks still has something of a market.

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, the free agent tackle  is visiting with the Cardinals today, and taking a physical.

He’s previously checked in with the tackle-needy Chargers, where he’d likely walk in the door as the starter, since no one seems to think King Dunlap’s capable of holding that job.

In Arizona, they’re hoping the return of left tackle Levi Brown stabilizes things, after they drafted guard Jonathan Cooper in the first round. But it’s not as if the Cardinals don’t need more help up front, even if Bobby Massie continues to progress at right tackle.

  1. The Chargers need to sign this guy. After last season’s left tackle debacle, there’s no way they can go into the season with King Dunlap protecting Rivers’ blind side.

  2. No guarantee the Cards sign Starks, but the Cardinals have clearly made strides as an organization under Steve Keim’s (and Michael Bidwill’s) leadership.

The first step was to get a professional, revenue-generating (for the Cardinals) stadium. Next was seeing the natural progression from Bill to Michael Bidwill.

Good to see them on the right track.

  3. Need all the help we can get on the o line. Between Levi being hurt and the amount of look out blocks that they give up, always could use depth…

  4. What is it with the Cardinals and scooping up the Steelers’ discarded players and coaches? Do they think that these one-leg-in-the-grave players really have something to offer or are they just trying to win a championship through osmosis?

  5. Could be a good signing for insurance purposes if Levi Brown should get injured again and if they don’t think Nate Potter is ready for a full slate of games.

  6. Could be a solid pick up for them. Could also be leverage game with SD and Pitt, although I’m pretty sure the Burgh has made their final offer.

  7. Good deal now all the answers on the tackle needed team can be done. I can see Max pushing Levi to get it done or he steps in, why not. By the way this has nothing to do with ex Steelers. This is AZ knowing they would have liked to take a worthy tackle in rd one they were unable to do that and simply with what tackles that are left on the open market are Max fits the team needs period.

  8. Not just visiting but taking a physical tells me AZ does have plans to contract offer him if Max was leverage AZ for more money from SD. Pitt made there finally offer and SD makes an offer he must be saing ah no Pitt. I want to play for SD so imam visit AZ for money money ya ok NOT.

  9. djjackson,

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say, but Pittsburgh never offered Max a contract.

  10. I couldn’t quite make sense of it either but I agree with irlfannphx, if the Pitt hasn’t offered him one than they really aren’t interested in him coming back at all. He ends up in AZ or SD–leaning towards AZ since he is doing his physical and all.

  11. Max Starks…the perennial “oh crap our OT just got injured! Let’s grab Starks for a couple games. He’s still a FA.”

  12. I was referring to someone’s comments that Pitt made there final offer. Someone said he was leveraging AZ visit to get more of offer from SD or Pitt. I don’t know if Pitt had or had not offered just responding to another comment I read.

  13. I read somewhere else other than this blog that someone said Pitt made there final offer and weren’t going up on there offer. So it left SD as only other team interested until AZ called so he was using AZ visit to gain money from SD.

  14. he is checkign in with other teams to see where his market is.he ca nthe ncompares offers to what the chargers are offering..seems like buisness and the chargers prob told him to see what the market is and they will make him an offer.
