Melvin Ingram suffers knee injury, Chargers fear torn ACL

Melvin Ingram, the defensive end/outside linebacker chosen by the Chargers in the first round of last year’s NFL draft, suffered a potentially serious knee injury today.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chargers fear that the injury was a torn ACL, which would knock Ingram out for the entire 2013 season. Ingram is still undergoing tests, and an MRI will be needed before the diagnosis can be confirmed.

If Ingram is out for the year, it would be a major blow, as the Chargers were counting on Ingram’s continued development as a starter.

There’s no word on how Ingram suffered the injury during non-contact Organized Team Activities.

This is why we didn’t draft him. Everyone else needs to take notes.

  19. logast says: May 14, 2013 7:48 PM

    Sorry Bolts fans. That stinks.

  20. humb0lt says: May 14, 2013 7:53 PM

The Bolts let Shaun Phillips and Antwan Barnes sign elsewhere. But, hey, we have Larry English.

  21. Fantasy Football Delivery Man says: May 14, 2013 7:53 PM

Huge loss. Their D was pretty solid last year and needs him to maintain that.

  22. siggtacular says: May 14, 2013 7:55 PM

Imagine how us ravens fans felt when Sizzle tore his ACL last year…. But only to come back and win the Super Bowl

    World Champion Baltimore Ravens

    Abraham or Freeney, Bolts fans?

now imagine if ingram made the pro bowl as a rookie, and that’s how we felt about losing berry in ’11.

  26. julianslick says: May 14, 2013 8:03 PM

This is a huge blow. Chargers were counting on Ingram to blossom this year.

  27. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: May 14, 2013 8:07 PM

Ingram one of my favorite prospects in last years draft. I think he will be a very good NFL player but this sounds like a major set back possibly. Hope for good news.

  28. baselman1974 says: May 14, 2013 8:10 PM

He played for the University of South Carolina. Still this is an awful break. He is an athletic freak and hopefully will recover quickly.

Hey Moron! ACL tears happen in ALL sports and organizations….even yours, you puke!

  30. melkipershero says: May 14, 2013 8:16 PM

Sizzle ruptured his Achilles. Not an acl injury. Guess Superbowl wins dont give you common knowledge.

  31. pmangarola says: May 14, 2013 8:20 PM

Ok this is terrible news but now Larry English will need to start and he’ll need to be the player we drafted to be

  32. seatownballers says: May 14, 2013 8:22 PM

Between ranking the chargers as having the worst receiving core and worst oline this is news is horrible. Matthews is a rb that can’t stay healthy, and river’s glory days are behind him.
Sorry to say, but I predict they’ll get the first overall pick in the next draft.

  33. skinswillsurprise says: May 14, 2013 8:22 PM

This sucks for the Fans, organization, and Melvin. Hopefully he will be okay. My favorite team QB is coming off an ACL injury. Robert Griffin III is his name if you haven’t heard of him.. Wish both of these guys the best. Hang in there Melvin and Charger fans. HTTR!!!

  34. 8man says: May 14, 2013 8:24 PM

WTF? They aren’t playing yet, are they? C’mon, not in the offseason….

    Hoping for positive news…

  35. marjorine1 says: May 14, 2013 8:24 PM

Hey! I got an idea! Maybe he can find the same “doctor” that got AP and Ray Lewis their prescriptions and come back better than ever and in record time!

  36. 1590t says: May 14, 2013 8:30 PM

I’m sure they are on the phone with Freeney or Abraham’s agent as we speak.

  37. silverhornet says: May 14, 2013 8:39 PM

Was going to be difficult for the Chargers to keep the Eagles’ home opener trend alive anyway but this doesn’t help. The last four teams to feature in the Eagles’ home opener – Baltimore, New York, Green Bay and New Orleans – have gone on to win the Super Bowl.

  38. mullman76 says: May 14, 2013 8:43 PM

Hate to see that happen. Hopefully it’s not serious and he’ll be ready to go for 2013.

    Go Raiders.

  39. raiderapologist says: May 14, 2013 9:13 PM

    Sorry to hear that.

  40. rohlo says: May 14, 2013 9:24 PM

injuries suck ..we didit need this on this team right now,but next man up( or should i say next man who isnt on the roster yet)..not holding my breath on english! telasco get off your arse and sign starks for LT .. wonder whos agent is on the phone with the chargers now? abraham, freeney, urlacher even though he isnt a de/lb.. abraham to me would be best casehe is the msot athletic of the list above currently at DE/LB…

  41. realfootballfan says: May 14, 2013 9:29 PM

With these new era steroids, he can be as good as new by mid September.

  42. rayguyreturns says: May 14, 2013 11:40 PM

Hate hearing this stuff. Every team will experience something similar with the same helpless heartache feeling.
Good luck to the kid in the future.

  43. fwippel says: May 15, 2013 8:10 AM

I really hate to hear that. Ingram has great potential, and I hope he’s back on the field ASAP.
